GAME BY GAME ANALYSIS
BROWNS @ STEELERS
WHEN BROWNS HAVE BALL
This is it. Last chance for the Browns to win a game and they go up against a Steelers Defense that is nowhere near the same Defense that got them to the #2 seed in the AFC. While the Browns and all their young explosive weapons would love to captalize on the less than 100% Steelers, the weather is going to be horrible and Kizer has shown us time and time again he cannot exceed in bad conditions. Look for Counting Crowell aka Isiah Crowell to get all the carries he can handle while Duke is the change of pace PPR option. Will not be pretty for the Browns on Sunday but they can move the ball against this Steelers D.
WHEN STEELERS HAVE BALL
No Big Ben. No Lev. No AB. The Steelers not even starting Dobbs at QB. They are rolling with Landry Jones who really is a 3rd string QB at best. JuJu and Martavis might have a play or two each, but the weather is horrible and it is hard to imagine the Steelers being aggressive with the passing game. With the Steelers not forcing the ball down the field, along with no Le’Veon Bell. Expect Stevan ‘Riddle Me This. Riddle Me That’ Ridley to get all the work he can handle. Stevan looked great during the preseason with the Broncos, he could surprise.
PACKERS @ LIONS
WHEN PACKERS HAVE BALL
Brett Hundley gets one last opportunity to show he is a starting NFL QB. So far his audition did not go as planned as it looks like he will most likely be holding onto a clipboard all 2018 on Football Sundays. There could be some Matt Flynn magic to get that big future contract with everything on the line, but that is not likely as the Detroit Secondary is strong. There will also be no Jordy Nelson or Randall Cobb. No Aaron Jones either, another BUST call I had way back when his stock was hotter than the sun. Even giving it the title, the Rise and Fall of Aaron Jones.
WHEN LIONS HAVE BALL
Amazing the Lions managed to not make the playoffs when the Packers were not a threat this season. Might as well go out on top for the Lions at home, and with the Packers offense and defense at far less than full strength. We should see the Lions let it loose and put up big numbers to close out the year. No RB I would trust on the Lions who are in a full RBBC, Stafford will be launching.
TEXANS @ COLTS
WHEN TEXANS HAVE BALL
TJ Yates will have no DeAndre Hopkins on Sunday, which means Will Fuller should be ready for his chance to get a lot of targets. Colts Defense has been surprsingly rock solid against the run, and they should be able to slowdown the passing game. This could be a Texans offense that is 10x worst than they were on Christmas.
WHEN COLTS HAVE BALL
Jacoby Brissett who was my QB Waiver Claim of the Week has one last shot to make magic happen. At the very least, he will be throwing to T.Y. Hilton day and night as the Texans Secondary has had trouble all season long. Frank Gore will continue to chase history, but Jacoby will be looking to throw deep to Hilton more than enough to make him a big name in Week 17.
BEARS @ VIKINGS
WHEN BEARS HAVE BALL
The Bears are losing O-Line faster than they are losing games. Without Sitton and Massie, the Bears running game has no chance to really make an impact against the Vikings. Trubisky could try to make things happen in the air, if he does Kendall Wright is the Vegas Favorite by a longshot to lead the team in receptions. Not going to be a pretty game for the Bears who will finish last in the NFC North for what seems like the 10th straight year at least.
WHEN VIKINGS HAVE BALL
Home Sweet Dome. After looking (Cold) playing in Freezing temperatures, they have a matchup against a Bears Defense that has been playing well, but they are not bulletproof. Vikings have a lot of weapons that can do damage and the Bears are not able to stop all of those weapons. Vikings have already secured the #2 Seed, so it is hard to imagine the starters playing more than one half, if not one Quarter. No reason to push them. Last year the Vikings were my Super Bowl Favorite to play against the Patriots. This year that prediction is coming true, without Adrian Peterson and Case Keenum at QB. Go figure.
JETS @ PATRIOTS
WHEN JETS HAVE BALL
The running game will need to be on Full Blast as the Patriots cannot stop the run, and Bryce Petty definitely cannot throw in the sub 10 degree weather. No Matt Forte means Bilal Powell will be the flavor of the week. He is capable, but the chances of the Jets scoring more than 1 TD is not likely at all. I would not roll with Bilal, but the opportunity is there. No Matt Forte this week.
WHEN PATRIOTS HAVE BALL
With Mike Gillislee OUT. I reapeat, Gillislee is OUT. The Patriots will have Dion Lewis take as much work as he can. Tom Brady is the only QB who can make it work in freezing weather, but it is hard to imagine him being a 4 TD caliber QB. Then again, we have seen Brady dominate in far worst conditions so it is not even a good idea to write him off. Patriots should score 3-4 TDs as a team, then call off the Dogs as long as the Defense holds up. Dion Lewis is going to see a lot of work.
REDSKINS @ GIANTS
WHEN REDSKINS HAVE BALL
The weather is freezing and Cousins has shown us he is not that great of a QB in horrible weather. Giants secondary is still capable of slowing down teams, so the Redskins will need to turn to the running game. Sam Perine is the last man standing for the Redskins and he should get a lot of work on the ground and through the air. Will not likely work, but he will get touches.
WHEN GIANTS HAVE BALL
Eli playing potentially his last game as a Giant faces a tough matchup. Weather will be freezing and the Redskins can cover. They can also play the ground game tight and Eli will be without Evan Engram and Sterling Shepard which is just setting Eli up for failure. Tough season for the Giants who dealt with too many injuries to count, they will do what they can to come out with a win in their season finale.
COWBOYS @ EAGLES
WHEN COWBOYS HAVE BALL
The Boys without a couple of their top linemen. Zeke is still a BEAST and with the weather the way it is, look for him to take all the carries he can handle in his last game of the season. Zeke still wants to go out on top despite a rough season, and Dak would love to get Dez going. Getting Dez going is not going to happen however with horrible weather and a rock solid Eagles Secondary. Not going to be the best season finale for Dak, but he could be facing backups in the 2nd half.
WHEN EAGLES HAVE BALL
Nick Foles will look to do what he can to be a game manager in this one. Foles has shown us he is not a great cold weather QB, but the Cowboys really have no secondary. Jay Ajayi is starting to completely take over as the guy for the Eagles and that could mean a Superstar is born again this Sunday. Sean Lee is healthy and he meets RBs in the hole head on, but Jay Ajayi is electric with power. However the Eagles already have the #1 seed locked up, so the Eagles could rest their starters in the 2nd half.
PANTHERS @ FALCONS
WHEN PANTHERS HAVE BALL
Panthers playing to win on Sunday. The Falcons Defense is still the same defense that took them to the Super Bowl last season, this will not be an easy matchup for Cam. If Panthers are going to win this game, it is going to be with the Trademark Smash Mouth Football that has made the Panthers the Super Bowl team they were two years ago. Very interesting matchup, look for the Panthers to play very conservative.
WHEN FALCONS HAVE BALL
Matt Ryan wants to put up fireworks in what is going to be their last home game of the season, win or lose. Julio Jones is a matchup nightmare and Mohamed ‘You Sanuze You Luze’ always has potential in matchups like these where the Secondary has no chance of stopping Julio one on one. The Panthers Run D is not as dominant as they have been in the past, Devonta and Tevin can run wild. Not going to be an easy day for the Panthers D at all.
BENGALS @ RAVENS
WHEN BENGALS HAVE BALL
I doubt Mixon plays this Sunday, no reason to rush him out there against a hungry Ravens Defense that is hitting very hard. Ravens Secondary has enough to stop AJ Green, especially with the bad weather playing a part. Giovani Bernard is not meant for cold weather Football, he is going to be hit hard all game long from start to finish. Not going to be a pretty day for Andy Dalton on the Road..
WHEN RAVENS HAVE BALL
Ravens can smell the Playoff spot and they play the Bengals who will be without Vontaze. Look for their star Alex Collins to have the chance to win this game. Buck Allen the BEAST DOME Legend will get his opportunities when the time is right, but this is Alex Collins’ team. No Jeremy Maclin will make Mike Wallace the Go-To option for Flacco, but the weather is going to be cold and windy. Look for the running game to lead the way.
JAGUARS @ TITANS
WHEN JAGS HAVE BALL
Jags are locked and loaded into the #3 Seed. With that being said, they would much rather face a team like the Bills instead of the Titans. Jags will likely not want to show too much or let the Titans get too much confidence against them. Hard to know how the Jags will come out, but I would not want to face the Titans in the first round. Leonard Fournette will likely split his reps, the WR core will have Allen Hurns back. Avoid all Jags in Fantasy.
WHEN TITANS HAVE BALL
No DeMarco Murray finally gives Derrick Henry a shot to bring the Titans to the Playoffs. The Jags D is great, but once again what do they do with their Playoff seed secured? If the Jags D plays all game, this will not be an easy matchup for the Titans offense at all. Hard to throw the ball, hard to run the ball. If the Titans are not moving the ball Henry, will not have a big game.
SAINTS @ BUCS
WHEN SAINTS HAVE BALL
The Saints are outdoors as they look to clinch the division. The weather will be perfect, but the Bucs Defense is healthy. Does not seem to matter as teams have been scoring on the Bucs all year, hard to imagine Brees having any trouble. Kamara + Ingram should be able to continue the two headed monster campaign. However you spell it, Drew Brees is going to be putting up points one way or another as the Saints will be playing as if this is their Super Bowl. They want that Home Game in the Playoffs.
WHEN BUCS HAVE BALL
Bucs had a horrible year, they were the Raiders of the NFC. This is their last chance to put up some magic and give the fans a show to close out the year. The matchup is not as easy as it sounds, but the potential for a shootout is always possible with these two offenses. Bucs have been very conservative, but they will have a healthy Desean Jackson back and he always has big time upside.
BILLS @ DOLPHINS
WHEN BILLS HAVE BALL
Huge game for the Bills who are somehow in the Playoff Picture. Dolphins Run D and Pass Rush has made them strong as of late, but McCoy and Tyrod are so quick the D-Line is due to get tired. Kelvin Benjamin is starting to look like the #1 WR the Bills want him to be, there is upside in that matchup as Benjamin has been a warrior all year. Bills will be playing with a lot of passion they have to be shocked they are in the Playoff Picture at all with how bad Tyrod was all season long.
WHEN DOLPHINS HAVE BALL
Dolphins will likely have a little bit of trouble running the ball as the Bills have been great at stopping the run for 4 generations now. Look for Cutler to not be too aggressive but enough so where he will find Landry all-around the field on checkdowns. Not going to be an easy offensive game, but the Dolphins should put up some nice drives as they do what they can to win in their home finale, as well as knock out an AFC East team from the Playoffs.
RAIDERS @ CHARGERS
WHEN RAIDERS HAVE BALL
Derek Carr and Marshawn Lynch face a beatup Chargers D. Not the best season for the Raiders at all, and this is not going to be an easy matchup as the Chargers can put on a lot of pressure. Look for Carr to take his shots for Crabtree and Cooper just because there is upside with nothing to lose. As far as Marshawn getting carries. Hard to say as the Raiders are not playing for anything, and Marshawn will make more on his bonus if he has a big game. Politics.
WHEN CHARGERS HAVE BALL
Must win game, Raiders welcome back Amerson, but he has to face Keenan Allen which will be tough. Melvin Gordon is not 100%, but the Raiders Run D is not tough. Rivers has a lot of weapons and this is a Must-Win Home Game for the Chargers. While their playoff hopers are not guaranteed, they will still do all they can to finish the season with a win against a weak defense.
CHIEFS @ BRONCOS
WHEN CHIEFS HAVE BALL
Chiefs have nothing to play for. Mahomes will make his first ever start in one of the toughest enviorments. December Football in Denver. The Crowd will be strong despite the team playing for nothing, it is their season finale. Chiefs offense will not be the same, hard to imagine them moving the ball well at all as Hill is OUT and Kelce/Hunt have no reason to be out there.
WHEN BRONCOS HAVE BALL
Paxton Lynch getting another shot, will not be pretty even if it is against Chiefs backups. No Emmanuel Sanders, Demaryius Thomas should see a lot of targets despite the horrible weather. Best plan of action for the Broncos is to keep the ball on the ground, but the Broncos want to see what they have in Lynch. Look for Denver to not be strong at all on Sunday, Lynch is not a good QB.
49ERS @ RAMS
WHEN 49ERS HAVE BALL
Jimmy G is throwing the ball like a potential Hall of Fame QB. I know it is way too early, but the Rams Secondary does not have a lot of weapons for someone who makes every throw on the money. Carlos Hyde will get an easier assignment with no Mark Barron. 49ers playing to win as their Franchise begins now. Rams have already thrown in the towel for this game, so the 49ers should be able to work their magic.
WHEN RAMS HAVE BALL
Rams are making a horrible decision sitting Gurley + Goff. They have a chance of playing the Falcons or the Seahawks with a guaranteed win, which would fit much better than them playing the Saints or the Panthers. Hard to imagine who steps up for the Rams as they are also resting two key offensive lineman. Not going to be a good game from the Rams at all.
CARDINALS @ SEAHAWKS
WHEN CARDINALS HAVE BALL
Drew Stanton will throw to Larry Fitzgerald all game as Fitz continues to make history with every catch. The Cardinals running game is no longer a threat and the Seahawks can still stop them even with no Bobby Wagner on the field. Drew Stanton to Larry Fitzgerald, something you will see a lot if you follw the Play-By-Play.
WHEN SEAHAWKS HAVE BALL
Hawks are playing for a potential playoff spot. Russell Wilson will take this game in his own hands, look for Baldwin to be tough to guard, Peterson hates guarding him. Jimmy Graham is also a threat as the Cardinals Secondary is nowhere near full strength. Russell Wilson will do what he can to win this game because there is a realistic chance the Falcons lose to the Panthers opening up a spot for Wilson. He will play with everything he’s got.
