Fantasy Football: Ramses Barden (Beast or Bust)

Beast Dome Nation.

Each week I take a look at a breakout Free Agent player to determine if they are going to be a Beast or Bust heading down the stretch of the season.  You can read what I said about:

Kevin Ogletree Week 1 by clicking here.

Tonight we analyze another Thursday Night breakout WR.  Ramses Barden..

WEEK 3 RANKINGS

RAMSES BARDEN – WR – NYG

Ramses  Barden looked great Thursday Night (9 Receptions 138 Yards).  While you may get excited and think, YES I can claim the next Mario Manningham.  It is time to think again.

Barden got his opportunity because Hakeem Nicks is out.  When Nicks is back, it is very possible we do see Barden play a lot.  However he will not see enough targets to be a Must-Start option at all this season.  He is the 4th read in the passing game when everyone is healthy behind (Cruz/Nicks/Bennett) and then Barden in that order.  While it was great to see Barden break out, he simply took advantage of a defense that was looking to shut down Victor Cruz.  The good news is, now Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks should less see double teams all season as frequently as you may have expected throughout the course of the season.  This also makes Eli Manning a more dangerous fantasy QB with another option.

PREDICTION: BUST. Ramses opens up the fantasy games for the other WRs now that teams know they cannot leave him open.  This was simply a good game because Hakeem Nicks was out.  He stepped up and performed like a STUD.  Round of applause, but that is all you can give him.  He is a WR#5 at best in the land of Fantasy Football moving forward.

  1. I am a major Giants fan. I picked up Barden for thursday’s game. I was happy with results. I agree 100% he will be a non factor if and when Nicks and even Hixon come back. Munts right on again
