LEGEND OF TOM MURPHY
BEAST DOME NATION.
If you are a BEAST DOME Groupie, you know that Tom Murphy has been on my BEAST list for the past two seasons. Because of injuries, and horrible management by the Rockies who overpaid Chris Iannetta and never gave Murphy a real chance. Tom Murphy became forgotten, released, and ended up on the Mariners as a backup to Omar Navarez. In Murphy’s first 81 games as a Rocky over 4 Years, he only hit 10 HRs.
END OF DRAFT THIS YEAR
How good has Tom Murphy been this season as a backup catcher, and as of late.
On the season Tom Murphy as a backup has 15 HRs in 52 Games with the Mariners while hitting .296. That puts him as the #10 Catcher in the HR department, and most impressive of all. All the catchers in the Top 10 are hitting with a worst batting average than Murphy. Maybe even more impressive, Murphy has done his damage in 187 At-Bats, while the Range of the Top 10 catchers has players with over 400 At-Bats.
The Rockies are struggling at catcher and are way out of it. If Tom Murphy would have stayed with the Rockies and they just decided to cut bait on Iannetta earlier, Tom Murphy would be the next Gary Sanchez no doubt in 2019. Murphy still has HUGE upside, and I can guarantee you he will be part of the BEAST DOME Strategy in 2020. Hopefully next year he finally gets his chance to play everyday.
This is the not the first time I called a BEAST catcher out before he got any love.
