AL ROOKIE OF THE YEAR 2026 (VOL. I) Munetaka Murakami

BEAST DOME NATION.
If you have been following BEAST DOME, you will have read the breakout Rookie of the Year candidates on BEASTDOME.com before any site. You can use the search bar for Triston Casas, Austin Wells, and last year we had a special one. While the start of the season I was on Jasson Dominguez ‘The Martian’, and Cam Smith ‘The No Power.’ During the All-Star Break I broke down a special article about why Nick Kurtz would win the AL Rookie of the Year.
AL ROOKIE OF THE YEAR 2025 (ARTICLE)
“At the end of the day, I am leaning towards Nick Kurtz winning this award unfortunately. The public really loves Jacob Wilson, he was the starting shortstop in the All-Star game which I am sure helps the resume when it comes time to voting, but Nick Kurtz is nothing short of PURE power. Either Jasson Dominguez has to get HOT to make a run for the money, or Cam Smith needs to step up his game, and voting has to consider the Astros are in 1st Place. Otherwise it looks like I have a losing season. I was able to snag Cam Smith at +3440, not bad considering he is now +165.”
This season we are in a similar situation where a power hitting 1B option who was not a favorite, is now the obvious choice. Munetaka Murakami is an absolute samauri with a sword that can build a dynasty. Murakami see’s a hittable pitch and he will launch it into the stands. Murakami was among the HR leaders before a hamstring injury has kept him out for what feels like months. Murakami is starting his rehab assignment Tuesday with AAA Charlotte and when he returns, which should be before the end of the week, he will be on a 1st Place Chicago White Sox team. The fact the White Sox are in 1st Place, yet alone playoff contention is nothing short of amazing and the people who choose the awards will love that comeback story alone.
The competition for Murakami winning the AL Rookie of the Year award is Kevin McGonigle, and on paper Kevin is a solid baseball player. One day he will be a 20 HR/30 SB guy, but for now he is more in the 15 HR/25 SB category MAX. Murakami on the other hand already has 20 HRs despite missing almost 2 months. When Murakami reaches that 30 HR plateau, which he can easily do before the end of August, when the hot weather really carries balls out of ball parks, it will have to be a near mortal lock that Murakami wins the AL Rookie of the Year Award, even if the White Sox miss the Playoffs.
MLB wants more fans, and there are plenty of more fans in Japan for the MLB to reach. If the MLB can have two Ohtani type players that are just crushing it in the MLB, the growth is too big to ignore. Despite this obvious Murakami should be the AL Rookie of the Year favorite, he is a heavy underdog at +490. Time to load up the shares, when Murakami returns to the MLB before the All-Star break, I expect him to be closer to +200. When Murakami hits that first HR when he returns, it will be even. When Murakami plays like how he was playing before the injury, he will be the easy favorite with nobody in a close second place.
BUY MURAKAMI AL ROOKIE OF THE YEAR SHARES
I was going to wait until the All-Star break to write this article, but the fact he is starting his minor league tomorrow means you have to buy your shares now. By the time the All-Star Break hits, the underdog odds will shrink quickly.
