FANTASY BASKETBALL: He Shoots. He Scores. (SG RANKINGS)

FANTASY BASKETBALL:

He Shoots. He Scores. (SG RANKINGS)

BEAST DOME NATION.

SG is one of the most fun positions of Fantasy Basketball.  Most of these players have two purposes on the court.  Shoot, and Shoot.  A lot of these guys cannot play defense, a lot of these guys can only play defense.  The one’s who can do both while also being a PG of the offense, those are the stars.

BEAST

1. JAMES HARDEN – HOU

What bad can you say about James Harden when it comes to Fantasy Basketball.  He knocks down 3PTM more than any SG, he will score 30+ Points some nights, he can even get 6-7 Assists.  Especially with Dwight Howard on the team.  The sky is the limit for James Harden who will do what he can to start to get his name in the same sentence as Kobe Bryant.

2. MONTA ELLIS – DAL

For the first time in a while for Monta’s career, he no longer has a superstar scoring PG alongside.  This Mavericks offense is going to be all Monta and Dirk in the pick & roll game which is going to spell a HUGE season for Ellis.  3PTM/Assists/Steals and everything in between will be there for Monta who is basically going to be in the James Harden conversation quickly.

3. KOBE BRYANT – LAL

Kobe is looking at a Gronk like return at some point this season.  Luckily he is making a lot of progress, and when he returns he will be ready to put up some big numbers.  This Lakers squad needs him to carry this team, and Kobe knows that if he wins a Championship this season.  There is no way in the world that you cannot say Kobe is the Greatest Player to ever Play the game.

That is what is on the line for Kobe.

4. DWAYNE WADE – MIA

Wade is looking a step slower and more fragile every season.  This off-season Wade made a Top 10 Players list in the NBA.  Kevin Durant called out Wade and said he should not be on it.

This blew up on Twitter and now Wade is out to make a statement this year.  Wade is out to prove that is a BEAST among BEASTs and will try to get in that Top 2 range for the SG spot.  However the age, the frailness, and the decline every season is suggesting that it is best to let him go.  His body takes more punishment than most SGs in the game.

5. O.J. MAYO – MIL

If O.J. Mayo does not score 20+ a game while leading the NBA in 3PTM.  Then he did not take advantage of his opportunity.  The Bucks no longer have Brandon Jennnings (DET) and Monta Ellis (DAL) to score any points.  In fact outside of Ersan Ilyasova, there is not one other guy you want taking more than 10 Shots a game.  O.J. should start Balling this season to the O.J. Mayo we all knew at USC.

ELITE

6. KLAY THOMPSON – GSW

Klay is a 3PTM machine waiting to happen.  The only downside to Klay is all the added weapons around him.  Andrew Bogut is healthy, Andre Iguodala is now in town.  These are two things that can take away from the 3PT shooting of Splash Mountain Klay Thompson.  Luckily he will still average his 18 Points and be among the league leaders in 3PTM.

7. EVAN TURNER – PHI

With Jason Richardson no longer healthy, Jrue Holiday (NO) no longer with the squad.  A rookie 6’6 PG who will have trouble against some of the top defenders.  We can expect Evan Turner to finally get his chance to be the low-end 3×2 player we know he can be.  Turner has game-changer Fantasy ability by stuffing the stat sheet, consistency was always his problem.  This season we should see Turner reach new levels.

8. KEVIN MARTIN – MIN

Kevin Martin is such an underrated Fantasy Star.  He can score 20 Points with the best of them a night, and he can rack up steals like Dwayne Wade in his prime.  On top of that he goes to the FT line a lot and hits about 88% of them.  Kevin Martin went from a bad situation in Houston, to an uncomfortable one in OKC.  Now he is back to be a starter on a team that needs his scoring on a nightly basis.  Look for Kev Mart to jump back to this tier.

9. BRADLEY BEAL – WAS

Beal is the next star to jump into this Tier.  He will make as many 3PT shots as all the leaders, he gets steals, and he actually can block a shot in the process.  The Wizards love Beal and so will you as a Fantasy Owner.  This guy is the real deal who will give you solid all-around scoring stats on a nightly basis while also helping with the intangibles.

GOOD

10. DEMAR DEROZAN – TOR

DeRozan is a Fantasy Star in the making who is chained to watching Rudy Gay take all the shots.  DeRozan has a lot of talent and there will be nights he scores 20+ while filling up the box score.  There are also other nights where he does not get to do much outside of going 3/9 from the field.  We should see more consistency this season.

11. ERIC GORDON – NO

Are we finally going to see a healthy season of Eric Gordon.  It seems like he can never stay healthy and is always a liability on your fantasy roster.   The thing about ‘EG’ is he does not help you in any categories outside of 3PTM and Points.  His assists/steals are nothing to brag about, and anything over 3 Rebounds is a big night for the pure scorer.

12. GERALD HENDERSON – CHA

Henderson was arguably the best player on the Bobcats last season.  He would score 20+ often, and he would always play the best defense.  Henderson is a great player on a small market team, and the addition of Al Jefferson should help relieve defensive attention.  Henderson will give you everything you need from a SG filling up the box score, the only downside to his Fantasy game is Ben Gordon lurking on the bench.

13. JOE JOHNSON – BRK

Joe Johnson is a star.  The problem is, his entire team is made up of stars.  There are going to be a lot of nights Joe shoots the ball less than 10 Times.  The Nets are in it to win it, and that does not mean they need Joe to lead the NBA in scoring.  Good season to pass on the declining star.

14. ARRON AFFLALO – ORL

Afflalo is a great Fantasy player who will be needed this season from Orlando.  The addition of Oladipo does hurt, as well as the late season emergence of Tobias Harris.  Still Arron is a great fantasy option for 3PTM/Steals and maybe some rebound/block numbers.  He is an-all around player who is continuing to improve.

15. J.R. SMITH – NYK

J.R. Swish is in for a long season.  The Knicks are already stacked with Amar’e/Carmelo/Felton and Tyson Chandler.  Now they added Andrea Bargnani who makes his living shooting the ball.  There may not be enough shots for J.R. on a consistent basis this season.  As explosive and amazing as he is, do not settle for him as an everyday starter.

16. DANNY GRANGER – IND

Granger will get his rhyhtm back and once again be a force in the NBA.  His Block/Steal potential is what makes him a special Fantasy player, not to mention he will be among the league leaders in 3PTM.  Granger has a lot of upside and for how late he goes in drafts, the bite is worth the chew.

17. DION WAITERS – CLE

Waiters is a promising young scorer in the NBA.  He can even drop 20 a game now if the Cavs really needed him too.   With the addition of Jarrett Jack, and the latest edition of Andrew Bynum.  Dion is not needed to be a star on this team, and the only thing he brings to the able is some nights where he will drop 13 Points.  I do not like the upside this young star once had, not with how overally talented this Cavs team has become.

18. ERIC BLEDSOE – PHX

Bledsoe is the David Wilson of Fantasy Basketball.  Luckily you do not have to spend a high draft pick on the rising all-around talent.  The Suns will need Bledsoe to be their bread and butter, which could only mean good things for a guy who can get Steals and Blocks like the best of them at his position.  Take his upside, he really can get you a  lot of steals and blocks for his position.

19. J.J. REDICK – LAC

J.J. goes to the Clippers where he will be launching 3PT shots every night.  He does have Jamal Crawford coming off the bench for him which is a problem, but J.J. will still get you a lot of 3PT shots and was fine with 6th Man minutes on Orlando.  Even as a starter in LAC with a better player behind him in Crawford, Redick will get his.

20. KYLE KORVER – ATL

Korver will be shooting a lot for Atlanta.  Outside of 3PTM and Points, you cannot expect much else from Korver.  With Lou Williams injured, and no more Josh Smith, Korver is by far the best and only outside shooter this team owns.

21. WESLEY MATTHEWS – POR

Wesley is slightly overrated as a player.  He does not score as well as he should, and last season he was forced into a lot of minutes to boost his stats.  Now that the Blazers have a bench, we can expect the real 12 Point Per Game Matthews to show up.  He will knock down his shots, but he will also disappear some nights.

22. JAMAL CRAWFORD – LAC

Jamal would be starting for a majority of NBA teams.  Instead he is a backup on the Clippers where his inconsistency is a reality because of how talented the team is.  The Clippers 2nd Unit now has Darren Collison to run the show with Crawford, all of this is shaping up to be another season you really do not want Jamal.

23. DANNY GREEN – SAS

With Manu Ginobili likely taking the start of the season easy.  We can expect Danny Green to emerge as a possible consistent SG option.  We all know he can shoot and score, but this Spurs team will never run their offense through him.  He is too hit or miss to depend on as anything more than a deep option for 3PTM and steals.

24. JIMMY BUTLER – CHI

Butler cannot really shot.  He will get his 12 Points, but you are getting him for his intangibles he brings at the SG position.  The Bulls will need him to take the load off of Derrick Rose, and with no more Marco Belinelli, we can expect Butler to live up to the challenge.

25. RODNEY STUCKEY – DET

Stuckey will not be consistent enough with this team.  Brandon Knight leaves, Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings come in.  That is not enough shot attempts for Stuckey who is a player that lives by his volume.  So with that being said, take him as not more than a late round selection who will have his inconsistent moments with starters minutes.

26. THABO SEFOLOSHA – OKC

Thabo will actually be needed this season with Westbrook injured.  We already know he can get Steals and knock down the 3PT shot.  With no more Kevin Martin, the minutes will be there early for him.  It will be interesting to see if he can capitalize and become a Fantasy option.  My prediction is Yes.

27. BEN GORDON – CHA

Ben Gordon can still Ball with the best of them.  His role on Charlotte is a perfect role for him since he lacks the ability to play defense in this league.  Charlotte can also use his shooting off the bench.  B-Gord is not and is a good 3PTM player to own.

28. MANU GINOBILI – SAS

Ginobili is only getting older and continues to decline every season.  He really saves everything he has for the playoffs, which means you can look the other in drafting the once all-around fantasy stud.  He will have his nights, but he will also have his games he barely plays.

29. MARCUS THORNTON – SAC

Thornton should be the starting SG on the Kings, but this team is too talented at the guard position.  Especially with Ben McLemore who should be a starter as well.  Marcus finally does not have Tyreke Evans in his way anymore, now he has McLemore and Grevis Vasquez who will push either guard spot for minutes.  Thornton is easily the best scorer on this team, but we may never get to see it this season.

30. BEN MCLEMORE – SAC

McLemore may have a lot of talent and could be a big scorer right away for Sacramento.  The depth on this team will not allow him to blossom the way we know he can.  Ben will pushing minutes with Thornton for the most part, and we can expect Ben to get more of his opportunity when the Kings start tearing down with injuries.

AVERAGE

31. JORDAN CRAWFORD – BOS

Jor Craw is an explosive Fantasy talent who could find himself playing a lot of PG early in the season.  Jordan is a great player to stash as he can have a big role with this Celtics team as long as Rondo remains out.  He once was scoring 20+ for Washington with his eyes closed.

32. VICTOR OLADIPO – ORL

Victor is like an upgraded E’Twan Moore.  He will not be consistent, but he can put up some numbers all-around from night to night.  He has good upside, but has to be drafted as a backup.

33. COURTNEY LEE – BOS

Courtney Lee is capable of some big fantasy nights.  He is blocked by Jordan Crawford and Marshon Brooks which means a lot of inconsistency ahead.  He already is an inconsistent player to begin with.  When you start saying the word inconsistent too much with one player, you should usually avoid.

34. TONY ALLEN – MEM

Steals/Steals and Steals.  Tony Allen is nothing more than a category stuffer who should lose PT to Jerryd Bayless often this season.

35. MARTELL WEBSTER – WAS

Webster could score 15 a game if he was on the right team.  Washington may be that team, but the PT will not be there on a consistent basis.  For that reason, you should pass on Martell as nothing more than a spot-start.

36. RANDY FOYE – DEN

Foye has never been a great fantasy talent.  Nothing new going to Denver playing on a crowded team where he will start, but could only play 17 Minutes a night.  His upside is not worth anything more than a very late flier.

37. SHANNON BROWN – PHX

Downtown Shannon Brown made a move to leave the Lakers for more PT.  So far his experiment has not been a story book to tell, and now Eric Bledsoe is doing something similar right in front of him.  Together they would make a great Dunk Contest.  As far as fantasy goes, you can pass.

38. RAY ALLEN – MIA

Allen is getting older, somebody should of told him, he’s on one.

All you can expect from Ray is those big clutch shots.  As far as fantasy goes, you have to just hope he shoots the ball more than 8 Times.  His 3PTM is the only pro you can expect from Allen at this point of his career.

39. TERRENCE ROSS – TOR

Ross has all the potential to be a Fantasy Starter in all leagues.  That will not happen this season as he continues to sit behind Rudy Gay and DeMar DeRozan.  Not to mention Alan Anderson at the backup SF spot as well.

40. EVAN FOURIER – DEN

Evan has some nice upside, the same time of upside as a European basketball player who can put the ball on the floor but still looks very soft.  Do not be surprised to see Evan not live up to his hype, especially with that crowded Nugget team.

41. ALEC BURKS – UTA

Burks can fly out of the gym.  That is the only thing he can really do.  Anything over 10 Points is a great night, and all other stats are unpredictable.  Go ahead and pass on the potential Slam Dunk contestant.

42. C.J. MCCOLLUM – POR

C.J. has good potential, but he will be a backup for Wesley Matthews and is starting the season with an injured foot.

43. LANCE STEPHENSON – IND

Stephenson was not a very valuable fantasy player as a starter.  Now with Danny Granger back, Stephenson is coming off the bench and is hardly worth anything on the Fantasy market.
