PLAYER WATCH: PHILIP RIVERS

People drafted Philip Rivers as a top 5 QB, maybe as early as #3 off the board in front of Brady, Brees, and Romo. The reason everyone liked Rivers going into this season was the fact he put up a huge year last year with only getting a handful of games from arguably one of the best WR’s in the game Vincent Jackson. He also had a good year with an injured Antonio Gates.

Fast Forward 5 weeks into the season.

The Chargers have one of the best defenses in the AFC. They have two capable running backs of putting up big numbers (R.Matthews and Tolbert.) Coach Norv Turner said he wants to get Matthews 25 carries a game, last year San Diego was a pass first, pass second, pass third type of team.

Vincent Jackson is now injured himself with an abdominal injury that has now led to a hamstring injury. Malcolm Floyd who was his #1 WR last year is playing through multiple injuries and doesn’t look like the same player. Antonio Gates is still suffering through his foot injury and has missed two games already in this young season and also failed to catch a pass in another.

In other words, it’s time to get all the value you can for him now before he has one last chance to have a big game against Denver’s suspect secondary who is getting Champ Bailey back. Sell as high as you can!
