KINGS OF LEONYS (LEONYS MARTIN)

By Muntradamus

BEAST DOME NATION.

Politics, it is everywhere. Even in sports.

The Mariners and Martin had a very heavy incentive based contract in 2017. Game Played, HRs, Stolen Bases, you name it.

When the Mariners started the season 7-12 and Martin was hitting .172 with 0 HRs after April. The Mariners decided they rather save the money they would owe Martin, and go with Mitch Haniger in the OF to see what they have there.

Martin went to AAA, hit 11 HRs in half of a season while hitting over .300 with 25 SBs. Numbers that obviously would bring any MLB player back to the majors, especially when you look at his MLB career.

Martin has superstar speed, he has decent power. When Martin was called back up at the end of July he hit 3 HRs in 1 Month with the Mariners, including a HR in his first game back from the minors. Which would be equal to about 18+ HRs in a full MLB season.

Seattle moved Martin to Chicago to close the end of last season, where he was a part time player, but you cannot undervalue what it means to a player to be on a MLB playoff roster.

This offseason the Tigers cleaned house after losing JD Martinez/Justin Upton and Ian Kinsler. With no true leadoff hitter on the roster, the Tigers brought in Martin to not only play everyday, but to bat leadoff.

Martin has huge speed potential, and he can hit 10+ HRs. Sound familiar?

SO CALL ME MAYBIN

Leonys is a steal on Fantasy Baseball Draft Day. Right now FantasyPros Experts have him as the #134 OF option. That means Leonys goes undrafted in nearly every league. Which is ridiclous considering you can get a guy who will steal 30+ Bases and hit 10+ HRs.

With all these sleeper OF options, it only starts to make sense that you should not reach for the OF position. There is plenty more options I have not even began to touch on.
