Last season a lot of you heard good things about me before coming to BEAST DOME for your Fantasy Baseball Draft Advice.  When I featured Chris Davis as my Breakout Star and ranked him as the #11 option at 1B when all the experts had him in the 20+ Range.  I told you to not even draft First Base until very late.  12 Months later you are back here, and I am here to convince you.  There is no reason Chris Davis should be treated like the #2 1B Option in Fantasy Baseball, that other “Fantasy Experts” are ranking him as such.

 

CHRIS DAVIS – BAL – 1B

Believe it or not.  When I input my Rankings into FantasyPros, I will be the only Expert to Rank Chris Davis at the #1 1B option at the position.  A BEAST superstar that hit over .330 with 31 HRs at the All-Star Break.  Of course he got very HR heavy and did not care about anything but Bombs.  Which led to a 2nd Half of a lot of Strikeouts, and not as many HRs.  He finished the season with 53 Bombs and a .286 Batting Average.

 

Yet despite this monsterous season.  Fantasy Experts are pointing the finger to Paul Goldschmidt as the #1 1B Option.  A player who plays in the pitching ballparks of the NL West (minus Colorado).  A player who is surrounded by mediocre to good talent.  A player who has never hit more than 40 HRs.  36 last season was his career high.  Yet despite that and his .302 batting average, with a nice 15 SBs.  Is being ranked ahead of a player who is easily the best hitter in today’s game.

Chris Davis is on a Stacked Orioles Roster which now has Nelson Cruz for added protection. The Orioles offense has big names in; Adam Jones, Manny Machado, Nick Markakis, Matt Wieters, Nelson Cruz, J.J. Hardy.  Too many names for RBI/Run opportunities.  While Goldschmidt has.  Aaron Hill, Mark Trumbo, Miguel Montero.  Is that really comparable?

Yet experts still think Paul Goldschmidt is the #1 1B option.  Maybe it’s because Paul plays in Dodger Stadium, Petco Park, AT&T Park which are known as Death Valley’s for hitters.  Chase Field is not as big of a Power Park as you think, the Roof is closed if it gets too hot.

 

So go ahead.  Listen to the other sites.  Someone will be that clown and take Paul Goldscmidt in Round #1 ahead of Chris Davis.  While I do like Goldscmidt at #2, the distance between him, Edwin Encarnacion, David Ortiz is not even on the same level as the guaranteed production of Chris Davis.

 

Despite all this.  If you were one of my VIPs.  I would tell you, do not even bother drafting Chris Davis in the 1st Round.  There are plenty of other talented 1B options who go very late in your draft.
