I was a James Paxton fan before people know who Paxton was. Ranked the #126 Pitcher in Fantasy Baseball according to FantasyPros, I pushed for everyone to grab the young stud before your draft.

4 Years later, coming off of his best season of his career, and comeback player of the Year. I am now pushing for the opposite.

James Paxton is being drafted as a Top 30+ SP overall in Fantasy Leagues, when he will be about as consistent as a Pitcher Ranked in the 50s.

The reason James Paxton in my eye is not the same pitcher from the past is his injury history.

James Paxton is a Lefty. From his Left finger to his forearm to his elbow to his pectorial. This guy is not 100% healthy and feeling the best he has ever felt in his career, his entire left side must have something wrong mechanically if he is suffering from an injury to his left side every single year. To make matters worst, Paxton is getting bombed this Spring showing he is not close to his A Game.

While Paxton has not always been a Spring Training All-Star, he is facing a very strong AL West. Much stronger in many years.

Oakland is still Oakland. Nearly any strong pitcher can have a strong start against them, though they are built to slug Lefty Pitchers with Khris Davis the Center Piece of that offense.

Angels are better than ever with Kinsler/Upton/Cozart coming into town. Those are three strong hitters who are immediate upgrades from last season. Trout/Upton/Pujols, even Kinsler all love lefty pitching.

Rangers offense is always explosive.

Houston Astros, cannot even start Paxton against them.

Paxton is going to be a nightmare to own. Bad starts left and rights that can be land mines to your teams total ERA. While Paxton is coming off of his best season, his ERA jumped from 1.43 before injuring his forearm, it jumped as high as 3.44. That is not the same pitcher who was AL Pitcher of the month to start last season.

James Paxton is not the same vintage ACE BEAST that he was once projected out to be. The AL West is too strong, let someone else burn a Draft Pick on James Paxton.
