NBA Finals Prediction 2026: Spurs vs Knicks

HOW I GOT HERE

I know ball. I picked the 76ers to upset the Celtics, I had a future to win LARGE for the 76ers to win the East. My bracket in the East was going exactly to plan, until the Hawks could not beat the Knicks. I had faith in Dyson Daniels to shutdown Jalen Brunson, and that did not happen. Then the Knicks dominated the 76ers before I could even cash out which was 10x my initial investment after they beat the Celtics. I got the 76ers at +6600 when Embiid had an appendicitis and were still in the play-in tournament. I have had my appendix removed, I knew there was enough time for him to return.

Now the Knicks face my who I thought would be the Champions in the Spurs. My closest ticket to that was a future on the Cavs vs. Spurs at +5500 NBA Finals when the Cavs were 2-2 against the Pistons while the Spurs were 3-2 against the Wolves. After the Spurs won game 1, I was feeling on top of the world when the Cavs were up by a ton of points against the Knicks in Game 1, to completely collapse. I was going to put Spurs to win it all when they were down 3-2 to OKC heading back to San Antonio. However with Jalen Williams returning, it seemed like a daunting task for the Spurs to win both games especially at only +500 to win the Finals. With Williams not playing in game 7, and just a shell of himself in limited minutes for game 6, it gave the Spurs an easy path to win in OKC and take the series.

With both teams matching up in the NBA Finals, I could care less who wins. I really do not like either team. The Spurs I do not like because out of De’Aaron Fox, everyone on that team is so selfish and their head coach Mitch Johnson has no IQ, and their assistant coach who ‘runs their defense’ so the announcers say every time stands up and yells so much. Never would you see Phil Jackson tolerate another coach standing up and yelling like a head coach from the sideline. Mitch Johnson looks like he is waiting to play next at YMCA gym, not a head coach.

WHY I DO NOT LIKE THE SPURS

Here is my real beef with the Spurs and why I said everything above. The game plan should be simple, give the ball to Victor Wembanyama every single possession. If the Knicks do not double team, let Wemby goto work and dominate like he is playing on a 5 Foot Rim and dunking from the free throw line. If the Knicks continue to not double, give the ball to Wemby again and again, and even if he misses a shot, give it to him again. When the double team comes, that is when Wemby makes the pass and someone else will be wide open. Instead the Spurs play street basketball, Castle tries to go one on one, Vassell and Champagnie will never turn down a shot if they have two inches of separation. It annoys me so much when Wemby will miss a jumper like he did in Game 7 in the 3rd quarter, then not shoot the ball for eight straight possessions as Castle thinks he is superman. When in reality, Castle is better suited for a last place team where he can just ball hog, like the Wizards. If it was not for Wemby sucking up all the attention, Castle would not be the name he is today, just another SG who can score 17+ Points with high volume.

The fact that the ball does not goto Wemby every possession makes me really hate the Spurs its hard watching dumb basketball.

WHY THE KNICKS CAN WIN

Then you have the Knicks. A team that is a team, but is kind of turning into the Jalen Brunson show. As much as I hate SGA and his flopping, Jalen Brunson flops maybe just as much as SGA. You lay a finger on Brunson and he spazzes out like Timmy from South Park. Brunson has been the motor that is carrying the Knicks, and the Spurs do have guys who can give him a hard time. However the flops will always keep Brunson relevant. The Knicks are really going to need KAT to play smart and not pick up stupid fouls. They will also need him to be great every game, none of those 12 Point games, KAT will need to be a 20+ guy nightly if the Knicks are going to win the Finals. Most important is OG returning to form. He did not look great in the Cavs series, he was nowhere the player he was in the Hawks series. He has had enough time to heal from his hamstring injury against the 76ers, and he will be a HUGE X-Factor in the Knicks winning.

BIGGEST X-FACTOR

At the end of the day, the Spurs win the Championship easily if they do not play like hooligan street animals who all think they are superstars. The Spurs win the Championship easily if Wemby shoots the ball 20+ Times a game. That is all it takes for the Spurs to win, 20+ FG Attempts for Wemby. If he shoots 30+ times, then the Spurs definitely win. Mitchell Robinson breaking his pinkie would be a big time loss if he misses any time, but even if he plays the Hack-A-Mitch will definitely be on call. Spurs could sweep, or they could drag out the series. All depends on the IQ of the team. End of the day, Spurs have enough opportunities in a best of 7 to win it all.
