Calling any player in the preseason a BEAST, is a stretch. Most players are lucky to get one quarter, two quarters amazing, three quarters, very doubtful. So when I am going out on a limb on a WR who will be lucky to run 20 routes, this is not your everyday calculation. However with Tyquan Thornton now on the Chiefs, he could be counting his lucky stars.
Last week Aidan O’Connell did not look great, but the Seahawks secondary of backups gave up some wide open plays. This week that Seahawks secondary is taking on the Chiefs. Lucky for them, Patrick Mahomes will not be playing. Which means we get to see Gardner Minshew/Bailey Zappe/Chris Oladokun (who is pretty good). Bailey Zappe and Tyquan Thornton used to play with each other on the Patriots about a moon ago, and now they have a chance to show their connection with the Kansas City Chiefs on a potential moon shot.
Look for Tyquan Thornton to get at least three bomb routes. Look for Zappe to make sure he takes a chance on his former WR. While a jump ball to a preseason WR does not mean success, it does mean there is at least a chance, and in the preseason that is all you can ask for.
In the end, I like the Chiefs to win this game who come in as underdogs. While Sam Darnold and the starters are playing for the Seahawks, before last season Darnold was really just a backup QB in value, and now he does not have Justin Jefferson. Chiefs are a seasoned, well coached team that can easily exploit this matchup. Chiefs have a lot of talent and they will be showcasing it.
