FANTASY FOOTBALL LOST IN THE SAUCE

FANTASY FOOTBALL LOST IN THE SAUCE

BEAST DOME NATION.
‘if you saw it for yourself on tape, you would not even know this guy used to be a star.’
I finished last season as the #10 IDP preseason expert on FantasyPros. Part of why I dominate compared to all the other Experts in the field is the fact that I do the homework of watching both sides of the ball; every week, every team, every season, and attacking the weakness that I see.
A few seasons ago in 2022 as a Rookie, Sauce Gardner was on the no fly list. Darrelle Revis once had Revis Island, Sauce Gardner was the second closest thing the Jets have had since. If there was a star WR going up Sauce, you look the other way. In 2024 when the Jets finally had a chance to be a Super Bowl contender, Sauce forgot how to play Football. Below is how PFF ranked him, but their ranking is far off.
Last season if it was 3rd down and the Jets needed a stop, you could throw against Sauce with confidence and teams would convert the 3rd down more often than not. A lot of penalties for Sauce as he often got smoked, and had to yank on a jersey to prevent being on the wrong end of a highlight. You can look at almost any game from the Jets a season ago, and you will see that the #1 WR had a strong game. You can go back and look at the tape, you will see plenty of blown coverages by Sauce. He is simply overrated. That won’t stop the Sheep from hyping up one of the most exciting Rookie from a few years back.
There are many players in the NFL who are hyped up on name alone. Sauce Gardner is one of those players. The Jets just blew their Franchise on him signing him to a 4 year/$120 Million extension. Sauce is not that guy, he finished 47th among cornerbacks in EPA (expected points added) per target (minimum 400 coverage snaps) after ranking second and 13th in his first two years, per Next Gen Stats. While those numbers sort of tell the story on how average he was, ‘if you saw it for yourself on tape, you would not even know this guy used to be a star.’
So when you watch a Jets game and you think, oh man you cannot throw against Sauce, think again. Then again the guy is young, he turns 25 years old at the end of August, and he has shown flashes of dominance. Despite his past, I am no longer giving him the same respect that I gave a few years ago, unless he earns it.
