STAR-TING PITCHERS ARE NO LONGER RELEVANT
BEAST DOME NATION.
The days of dominating starting pitchers are officially over. The hitters in baseball are just too good. Even 5+ Years ago, every team seemed to have 2 or 3 guys that you questioned their existence on a starting lineup. Chase Headley?
Now besides teams that are re-building like the Orioles, every team has talent from top to bottom of their lineup. Pitchers are not as dominant as they once were, even a guy like Max Scherzer gave up 3 ER or more in 5 of his last 7 starts. Scherzer is a waste of a 1st Round Pick as he is far from bullet proof against teams like the Phillies/Mets/Braves, teams he will be facing more often than not.
Clayton Kershaw and Chris Sales are both trending downwards in their career, the young guns cannot stay healthy like Severino and Strasburg. So many others like Carlos Martinez (Good Sleeper) has faded from the spotlight. Is Blake Snell really that good of a start against the Yankees & Red Sox, even Toronto can get him on an off day. The days of dominant Pedro Martinez/Kerry Wood/Randy Johnson 90s pitching is done.
Aaron Nola and Gerit Cole are not bullet proof, I would not even be excited over Corey Kluber who may give up 4 ER to Minnesota more than once.
Hitters are more athletic, they are more trained, and they are all professional around the world.
On Draft Day, do not draft a starting pitcher until a heavy majority of your team is filled out.
