FANTASY BASEBALL SLEEPER BEAST ALERT JON SINGLETON

FANTASY BASEBALL SLEEPER BEAST ALERT

JON SINGLETON

By Muntradamus

BEAST DOME NATION

In today’s MLB if you are playing 1st Base you have to have power. Nearly all 32 MLB teams have a power hitting 1st Base option that can hit 30+ Home Runs. Despite this statistic, 1st Baseman continue to be drafted in the 1st Round year after year in the 1st Round. Last season all experts were on Jose Abreu as if he were the next Barry Bonds. 30 HR/101 RBI in 2015 easily makes him the most worthless draft pick as the 1B position had plenty of non-drafted players who finished with more bombs.

This season there is a 1B option who has Superstar potential. He has never had his moment to shine, but with a move to push Chris Carter to the Brewers, Jon Singleton is now the full-time 1B option for the Astros.

SLEEPER BEAST

JON SINGLETON

For starters, Jon Singleton is officially on the BEAST side when you look at how big of a monster he is when he comes up to bat.

The guy has one of the cleanest strokes and for him to be able to hit Home Runs off of lefties and hit with average (4 HR/.247 Average) at the young age of 24 years old, the future is bright. Singleton has 14 HR in 420+ At Bats. At that rate, you see a guy who is hitting around 23 HR in a full season. The reason why these numbers are lower than you want, is because Singleton never had the opportunity to play full-time. With Carter gone, Singleton has a clear path to play everyday and it would take a lot for the Astros to bench their future 1B option. Last Season Singleton only had 47 At Bats as there was no spot to put him in their lineup.

Before I go any further it is important to note. Singleton and his Major League career batting average is at .171. That is historic low like he will never be an everyday player. While you can hold onto that statistic, it is important to note that Singleton hit .254 with 22 HR in 102 Minor League games last season. Those numbers over the course of a full MLB season could see a Sleeper 30 Home Run potential.

With the Astros playing in one of the most HR Friendly ball parks, and the Astros holding a lot of players that have the potential to steal bases which will keep pitchers a little off balance. Jon Singleton has a good chance of seeing a lot of fast balls in the back of that Astros lineup. If pitchers throw too many Fast Balls to Jon Singleton, which I predict they will. You can get a Young BEAST talent for a fraction of the price of 1st Round 1B, probably will not even be drafted to be honest.

MUNTRADAMUS 2016 PREDICTION

RANKING: # 19 1B

JON SINGLETON – 1B – HOU

.234/26 HR/83 RBI/69 Runs/1 SB.

FANTASYPROS EXPERT CONSENSUS: #54 1B

AVERAGE DRAFT POSITION: 453

Moral of the story. Never draft a 1B option with the #1 overall pick. Singleton who will not even be drafted will be more than useful on Fantasy Rosters this season.
