———————————————————————————————————————

(Wednesday 3/28)

Seattle 3 @ Oakland 1 (11th INN)

  • In the first MLB Game of the season, Dustin Ackley was a monster going 2-5 with a HR and a SB.  I personally held him outside of my top 20 at 2B as playing in Seattle is nothing like playing in Japan.  Do not remind Ichiro of that with his 4 hit performance.  Felix Hernandez was more than elite with 8 INN, 5 H, 1 ER, 6 Ks.  Of course he did not get a win as Seattle never gives him run support, but Brandon League did manage to get a save in a 2 K INN.  League could easily reach 40 this season.
  • For Oakland, Brandon McCarthy gave his team a solid start of 7 INN, 6 H, ER, 3 Ks.  He too did not factor in the decision.  Wins are scarce for Oakland pitchers.  Jemile Weeks got his first of many SBs last night.  40+ is very possible for him.  Yoenis Cespedes knocked out a double against King Felix, and Kurt Suzuki had the lone RBI.  The closer situation is still a bit unclear in Oakland, but both Balfour and Fuentes threw shutout Innings.

SPRING TRAINING

  • Brandon Beachy (6 INN, 6 H, 2 ER, 2 Ks). Should be a solid pick, more Ks are expected.
  • Hiroki Kuroda (7 INN, 6 H, 2 ER, 6 Ks). Great value pick.
  • Freddie Freeman (1-3, HR, RBI). 6th of the Spring, 5th HR this week. Wow, FIRE.
  • Jason Heyward (2-4, HR, 2 RBI, SB). He is looking good this Spring, worth the gamble.
  • Vance Worley (4 INN, 11 H, 11 R, 5 ER, 3 Ks). Terrible start, knocks his value a bit.
  • Francisco Liriano (4 INN, 8 H, 2 ER, BB, 3 Ks). Big season ahead, consistency is key.
  • Justin Morneau (3-4, HR, 3 RBI). Really heating up lately, 3rd HR of the week.
  • Matt Capps (INN, 2 H, ER, K). Will be closer for now after Pekins blew up.
  • Brett Myers (INN, H, K). Picked up the save and will close for now.
  • Carlos Zambrano (4 INN, 5 H, 3 ER, 5 BB, K). Wild and not predictable.
  • Daniel Murphy (2-3, RBI, SB). 15/15 or 10/10.
  • David Price (7 INN, 6 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 Ks). Big season coming up.
  • Andrew McCutchen (1-3, HR, RBI). Heating up lately, 3rd of the Spring.
  • Luke Scott (2-4, HR, 3 RBI). Sleeper for 20+ HRs.
  • Lorenzo Cain (1-3, HR, 2 RBI). Having a great Spring, must have keeper.
  • Billy Butler (3-4, HR, 3 RBI). Showing a lot of power this spring, 30 HRs?
  • Eric Hosmer (3-4, RBI, SB). 3rd SB of the Spring, does a bit of everything.
  • Derek Holland (5 INN, 9 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 3 Ks). Should be solid this season.
  • Jonathan Broxton (INN, H, BB, K). Will be closer to start year most likely.
  • Carlos Beltran, Lance Berkman and two other Cardinals stole bases easily against Avila.
  • Adam Wainwright (4 2/3 INN, 6 H, 3 ER, BB). Should be fine, never faces DET.
  • Jason Motte (INN, H). Closer job is all his.
  • J.P. Arencibia (2-4). Big season ahead.
  • Jordan Zimmerman (6 INN, 2 H, 2 Ks). Solid start, should be good.
  • Jonathan Niese (6 INN, 5 H, 2 ER, BB, 6 Ks).  Low-end option if anything.
  • Jayson Werth (1-4, HR, RBI). 4th of the spring, bounce back is likely.
  • Ian Desmond (4-4). A SB would be nice, I expect 27 on the season.
  • Vernon Wells (1-3, HR, RBI). Huge Spring continues.
  • Dan Haren (5 2/3 INN, 9 H, 2 ER, 2 Ks). Complained of dead arm, said he is fine..
  • Bronson Arroyo (6 INN, 4 H, 2 ER, BB, 5 Ks). Low-end if anything.
  • Brandon Phillips (2-2, SB). Could bounce back, I’m not reaching for him.
  • Zack Grienke (7 INN, 5 H, ER, BB, 8 Ks). Could be sleeper CY Young.
  • Huston Street (INN, K). Solid as they come.
  • Edinson Volquez (7 INN, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 Ks). Will pitch better in spacious SD.
  • Will Venable (2-3, SB). 7th of the Spring, will get PT until Carlos Q. returns.
  • Yonder Alonso (1-4, HR, RBI). 1st of the spring, I will pass.
  • Chase Headley (2-3, HR, 4 RBI). Not much is expected this season.
  • Kenley Jansen (INN, H, BB, K). Top notch not closer this year.
  • Carlos Marmol (INN, BB, K). Give us a flawless INN please.
  • Rafel Betancourt (1/3 INN, H, 2 BB, K). Shaky spring as closer.
  • Gavin Floyd (5 2/3 INN, 7 H, 8 ER, 2 BB, 4 Ks). Pass, outside of top 60.
  • Addison Reed (1/3 INN, K). Future closer.
  • Carlos Gonzalez (1-3, RBI, SB). 30/30 season is likely.
  • Dexter Fowler (1-4, HR, 2 RBI). Less safe version of Austin Jackson.

———————————————————————————————————————

(Thursday 3/29)

Seattle 1 @ Oakland 4

  • Justin Smoak was the lone bright spot for the Mariners launching his first HR on a 1-4 day.  Anything over 20 HRs would be a great season for him.  Jason Vargas pitched a solid 6.1 INN, allowing 2 Hs, 1 ER, and 3 Ks.  He will be lacking run support for a majority of the season, but a game like this was very solid.  The A’s are no juggernaut offensively.
  • Yoenis Cespedes hit his first HR in the second game of the season.  This will help his owners believe in the 20/20 season.  Jonny Gomes and Josh Reddick also hit their first HRs of the season.  It would be tough for either of them to top 20 HRs this season.  Jemile Weeks continues to be aggressive on the basepaths but was CS.  He should find a way to steal 40+ Bases with ease this season.  Bartolo Colon pitched 8 INN of 1 ER baseball with 6 Ks, and then Grant Balfour threw a perfect 9th with the a K to earn the save.  Balfour may have some good short term value before he blows a few saves in a row, but Bartolo has to do this against another team better than the Mariners for me to be a believer.

SPRING TRAINING

  • Jason Heyward continues his hot Spring knocking his 4th HR.
  • Ryan Zimmerman looks healthy as he hit his 3rd HR of the Spring.
  • Edwin Jackson rebounded with a solid 6 INN, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 K game.
  • Mike Minor is still a bit shaky with 4 H, 4 ER, 5 BB, and 6 Ks in 5+ INN.
  • Anibal Sanchez was solid with 4 Ks and 1 ER in 5 INN.
  • Carlos Beltran knocked his 2 HR of the Spring and was CS, should rebound.
  • Daniel Murphy SB, 15/15 is his ceiling.
  • Jose Reyes was CS, the wheels will be running all season long.
  • Evan Longoria hit his 2nd HR of the Spring showing nice early potential.
  • Desmond Jennings stole his 3rd base, 30+ will come easy.
  • Cole Hamels looked solid in 5+ INN with 7 Ks, 3 H, and 1 ER. He is ready.
  • Jonathan Papelbon continues his flawless spring with INN, BB, K, W.  Elite.
  • Jeremy Hellickson had his best outing of ST with 6 INN, 7 H, ER, 3 Ks.
  • Ben Revere stole 2 bases giving him 5.  He should steal 30+.
  • James McDonald got blown up making him not draftable.
  • Anthony Gose stole 4 Bases making Toronto a very crowded OF.
  • David Ortiz hit his 3rd Spring HR tuning him up for a good season.
  • Jose Valverde continues to be flawless with a shutout INN.
  • Max Scherzer gives up 10 H, in 5+ INN.  Only 3 ER, but only 3 Ks.
  • Brennan Boesch knocked his 6th HR now officially doing better than D. Young.
  • David Wright hit his 1st HR of the Spring which will make his owners happy.
  • Mariano Rivera still has not given up an ER all Spring.
  • Jason Hammel looks promising giving up 2 ER, 5 Ks and 5+ INN vs. the NYY.
  • Raul Ibanez hit his 2nd HR of the Spring solidifying his role as RHP DH.
  • Aroldis Chapman was great with 5 INN, 2 ER and 6 Ks.  He deserves to be a SP.
  • Randy Wolf blew up with 12 H, 7 ER, in 7 INN.  The 7 Ks looks nice.
  • Michael Brantley hit his 1st HR and could be a featured player in the first waiver wire.
  • Juan Nicasio flashes more potential with 6 Ks and 2 ER in 5+ INN.
  • Chris Perez throws a shutout INN showing he is ready to close.
  • Derek Lowe only threw 3 INN with 2 ER, and 2 Ks. Waiver wire claim at some point.
  • Chris Sale was solid with 6 INN, ER, 7 Ks. It was against the Dodgers but still great.
  • Matt Thornton locked up his first save and will begin as closer with Addison Reed close.
  • Aaron Harang had 6 Ks, and 1 ER in 6 INN.  Probably will go undrafted in most leagues.
  • Miguel Montero knocks his first HR of the Spring and should have a great healthy year.
  • Jason Bourgeois steals 2 more bases and will be doing it all year for KC when starter.
  • Jordan Walden struck out 2 in a perfect save.
  • Eric Hosmer continues his fantastic spring with his 5th HR.
  • Mark Trumbo shows the power with his 4th HR and 40+ games guaranteed at 3B.

  • Josh Collmenter is not worth drafting.  I do not need to explain after another blowup.

  • Albert Pujols ready to dominate with his 5th.
  • Howard Kendrick should have a great season batting in front of Pujols and hit his 4th.
  • Chris Capuano showing his good stuff with 7Ks in 6 INN and 1 ER. Waiver Wire claim.
  • Ryan Braun starting to heat up hit his 2nd HR of the Spring.
  • Andre Ethier ready for a big contract season with his 3rd of the Spring.
  • Ben Zobrist steals his 2nd base of the spring, 15+ should be expected.
  • Matt Moore looks sharp with 6 INN,1 ER, 3 Ks. Top RP/SP option.
  • Sergio Santos throws shutout INN and continues solid spring as THEE CLOSER for Tor.
  • Ian Stewart hit his 2nd HR of the Spring, topping the amount he had all of last season.
  • Javy Guerra gives up an ER, Jansen is perfect.  They will swap at some point.
  • Ryan Dempster gives up 1 ER in 4+ INN & 3 Ks. Wins will be tough for all Cub pitcher.
  • Carlos Santana hits his 4th HR of the Spring and should be top catcher this season.
  • Asdrubal Cabreara hit his 1st HR of the Spring which is great for him to see.
  • Johnny Cueto was solid with 6 INN, 2 ER, and 3 Ks.  Not a big K pitcher.

  • Alex Gordon signs a new contract and hits his 4th of the Spring.  Good season coming.
  • Gregor Blanco stole his 12th base of the Spring and now leads the majors.
  • Angel Pagan stole his 3rd and you have to question if Blanco will interfere.
  • Pablo Sandoval hit his 4th of the Spring and is ready for a  big year.
  • Yu Darvish Ks 11 Rockies but still gives up 3 ER and 6 Hits in 6 INN.  Promising stuff.
  • Jhoulys Chacin gives up 5 ER and 9 Hits in 6+ INN.  Not promising stuff.
  • Chris Snyder hit his 4th HR of the Spring, should be starting catcher.
  • Jose Altuve stole his 3rd base of the Spring.  20 would be great.
  • Dan Uggla got a rare steal, anything over 5 would be epic.
  • Jair Jurrjens was great with 7 INN, 4 Ks, 1 ER.  Should have great season.
  • Ian Desmond hits his 2nd HR of the Spring and is a legit threat for 10 HRs and 27 SBs.
  • Josh Johnson showed his K potential with 9 in 5+ INN.  Only 3 ER shows he is ready.
  • Brett Myers throws solid INN and is ready to be closer.

———————————————————————————————————–

  • Jon Axford had 2 Ks in a perfect INN, closer job is safe.

  • Andrew McCutchen steals his 4th bag of the Spring.  20/20 lock player.
  • Garrett Jones hits his 4th Spring HR, that will make him a good FA heading into week 1.
  • Adam Dunn reminds us he is having a comeback year with his 5th this Spring.
  • Rafael Betancourt is starting to settle down with another solid INN with 2 Ks.
  • John Danks gives up only 1 ER in 6 but Ks 2.  Not the most trustworthy option.

  • Robinson Cano hit his 2nd HR of the Spring tuning up for a big year.
  • Raul Ibanez was solid with his 3rd of the Spring, 2nd of the week.

  • Ricky Romero threw 2 perfect INN with 2 Ks.  Elite season coming.
