FANTASY BASEBALL 2016

5 Pitchers YOU DO NOT WANT TO DRAFT

By Muntradamus

BEAST DOME NATION.

When you draft a Pitcher in Fantasy Baseball with a decent pick, you are drafting a guy that is going to be a consistent pitcher who will give you good numbers throughout the season without destroying your chances of losing a category. A perfect example would be taking DeAndre Jordan in Basketball and having him single handily ruin your FT %.

Pitching is a precious part of Fantasy Baseball as it makes up 50% of your Roto Score and most leagues only have 5 Pitching Categories. Stay Sharp and avoid these traps below.

ZACK GREINKE – SP – ARI

ADP #32

Look Greinke was more than solid with the Dodgers the past few seasons, dominated his entire career. Now he goes to easily a last place contender in the Arizona Diamondbacks. Paul Goldschmidt is a BEAST, but the rest of the Diamondbacks offense is not that strong. In fact if the Diamondbacks are not facing a lefty pitcher, there is a good chance these lose a majority of their games.

Greinke is no doubt a quality ace, but someone like King Felix who goes 2-3 Rounds later is a much better pitcher who is far more dominant. If you get less than 15 Wins from a 3rd Round Pick and an ERA that is near the 3.00 Range with a Strikeout Rate that is on the decline, you wasted this pick.

DANNY SALAZAR – SP – CLE

ADP #78

The whole point of drafting a Starting Pitcher with an early pick is to get a starting pitcher you can depend on. While Salazar has strikeout potential that at times is unmatched, we have also seen him turn into a pitcher that loses all of his control and could give up 8 ER in 2 INN if things are not going his way. Salazar is a Strikeout king, in the end I want a Starting Pitcher who is consistent.

Adam Wainwright who is always a candidate for a MONSTER season and is nearly as rock solid as it gets goes for a later draft pick than Salazar.

KEN GILES – RP – HOU

ADP #102

Giles has always had good stuff and has been a very reliable RP. Going to Houston is going into Luke Gregerson territory, and Giles has never had to win a job from a quality RP like Gregerson. While Giles has shown he is electric, at the end of the day you want the rock solid veteran to lock down the close games in the 9th, in the end Gregerson is the guy who will get the job done. No reason Ken Giles should go over someone like K-Rod in Detroit who has no competition over the job.

JUSTIN VERLANDER – SP – DET

ADP #118

Just because you have Kate Upton, does not mean you have the world. While I have been one to defend Justin Verlander over the years, this guy is straight up done. The fact Experts are jumping on him this late in his career is nothing more than a hail mary as Verlander is ready to jump to a Jered Weaver quality starter. His velocity is gone, his control is nothing to brag home about, he will be a WHIP/ERA nightmare and even if he does win 14+ Games, that WHIP/ERA will cost you nearly every time he takes the mound.

RAISEL IGLESIAS – SP – CIN

ADP #144

This one I don’t get at all. Iglesias was a nightmare nearly every time he took the mound. Imagine if you had Danny Salazar but you already know he is going to be wildly inconsistent during his start, that is the recipe that makes up Raisel. Yes the Strikeout Potential is nice, but the Reds are a team that will not win many games, and Iglesias with his ERA over 4.00 as a Rookie is not looking any more promising as he getting crushed this Spring. The WHIP and ERA is in danger.

Raisel is a waste of a pick and is better off on the Waiver Wire.
