FANTASY FOOTBALL WAIVER WIRE Week 5: THE RETURN OF THE UNICORN (RICHARD RODGERS)

FANTASY FOOTBALL WAIVER WIRE Week 5:

THE RETURN OF THE UNICORN

(RICHARD RODGERS)

BEAST DOME NATION.

First thing you may notice is that Richard Rodgers is wearing #89, which belongs to James Jones. Richard Rodgers gave up his number to James Jones when he joined the team, going to #82. Got to love a good teammate.

Last season I had the strategy for all BEAST DOME users to take Richard Rodgers (The Unicorn) in the last round if you missed all the target TEs. With a good chance to be the opening day starting TE, the ceiling was high for Rodgers and worth the investment of a late round pick. In the 2nd quarter of the first game, Richard Rodgers went down which opened up the door for Brandon Bostick and Andrew Quarless to regain the job they thought they had before Rodgers was drafted by the Packers. Eventually when Richard Rodgers returned it turned into a 3 man TE by committee situation which killed all of their values.

Coming into 2015, Bostick was waived after not handling an onside kick which ended the Packers playoff run against the Seahawks. Andrew Quarless had charges against him regarding a gun, which gave Richard Rodgers his chance to start off as the opening day starter. Quarless had been in the mix all season, until he got injured during their Week 3 MNF game against the Chiefs, after grabbing two receptions on that drive. Quarless is now out for the season, leaving Richard Rodgers as the only TE left for the Packers. To celebrate his first full game as a starter, he outscored Randall Cobb and James Jones in Standard Leagues while catching the only TD pass from Aaron Rodgers.

With Davante Adams nursing a bad ankle, and TY Montgomery not doing much to impress anyone, Richard Rodgers is looking like the clear #3 option in the Packers passing game. While I do not suggest you start Richard Rodgers over Jimmy Graham, The Unicorn is a great alternative if you missed out on Graham and was rolling with Eric Ebron or Austin Seferian Jenkins who both went down, Richard Rodgers is the next man up in your rotation. Being the #3 option for Aaron Rodgers is enough to make him a low-end TE #1 moving forward to close out the season. He lines up everywhere on the field from HB/FB/TE/WR.

  1. Like this pick. Ebron going down hurts me, and the wire is barren. Let’s hope the green unicorn can be as good as the black unicorn.

  2. Munt!, out of curiosity, what order do you like these players? A.Gates>J.Thomas>R.Rodgers?

  3. Edge to Gates because of his history with Rivers, but Rodgers is going to be rock solid and could easily pass him this season. Especially with Ladarius Green emerging

  4. Well, I do have JamesEndzone Jones and Lacy. Maybe this would be a good pairing strategy?
