WEEK 3 Football Rankings w/ Nicknames

BUY (TRADE FOR)

CHRIS JOHNSON – RB – TEN

Yep, you see his name in the right spot.  Now is the time to Buy a 1st round pick for 5th round value.  You can say, oh he is not motivated anymore, or he is garbage and nowhere near the player he was a couple years ago.  I probably won’t argue with you there.  But here’s the truth.  The Titans passing game is awful right now.  If the Titans can’t scare teams with the pass, then Chris Johnson is not going to run.  With Kenny Britt/Nate Washington/Jake Locker all at less than 100%.  Chances are all defenses want to stack the box and have Johnson do nothing.  Eventually the passing game will look as good as it did last season, and then we can start getting those 80 Yard/1 TD games more consistently.  Right now you can get CJ for HUGE value, and the best part is.  His value cannot get much lower than this.  Go ahead and make the trade.  CJ knows he is disappointing fantasy owners.  Watch the video below.

ANTONIO GATES – TE – SD

A lot of people are already panicing with Gates.  People drafted him with the fear that he is injury prone, and we are at Week 3 and he has already missed one game.  His trade value has fallen to a huge distant #4 TE, some people may even consider him less of an option than Brandon Pettigrew and Vernon Davis.  Do not be one of those owners who sell early, in fact be an aggressive owner who gets him now.  With Ryan Mathews healthy again, defenses cannot double Gates as often as they would like to, especially with Malcolm Floyd taking off this season.  Gates is going to end up with his 1,000+ Yards and 10 TDs.  Now is your chance to work a trade to get great value.

JASON WITTEN – TE – DAL

After the broken spleen, people were worried about trusting Witten as their Go-To-TE for this season.  Although Week 1 was a dissapointment, and Week 2 was a week where you wish you never started him.  Seattle’s pass defense is tough, and he dropped a 30 Yard catch which he could have run in for a score.  Week 3 is going to be his true coming out party.  Tony Romo should pick apart this weak Bucs secondary, and if they put too much attention on slowing down Dez Bryant or Miles Austin, Witten will be the one who emerges with the monster game. Do not sleep on Witten this week, and now is the time to get him while his trade value is so low.

MARQUES COLSTON – WR – NO

Bad Luck has struck Colston this season.  In Week 1 he dropped a slant for a TD.  Week 2 he was tackled at the 1.  With Devery Henderson injured, and defenses now focusing on shutting down Jimmy Graham who appears to be the #1 and #2 option for Brees.  Colston is just days away from a breakout game against a Chiefs Secondary that will be overwhelemed.  Marques is over due for 100 Yards and 2 TDs, and although his inconsistency has plagued him in the past.  Last season he proved those days are over, you can have him at WR#20 value, even though he is a top 10.

JUSTIN BLACKMON – WR – JAX

Blackmon has been going up against the best corners in the NFL in his first two weeks.  If anything, this will make him stronger for the rest of the season as he now knows how hard it is going to be.  Blaine Gabbert wants to get Blackmon the ball because he knows he is his best weapon.  As the season progresses, and possibly this week, Blackmon should get right back on track to be a candidate for Rookie Of The Year.  1,000+ Yards receiving is still more than possible, you can have for next to nothing in a trade these days.

JACQUIZZ RODGERS – RB – ATL

Did anyone else see Michael Turner roll the down field like a bowling ball that was too heavy for your grandma to handle.  He is slow, and defenses can easily tackle him for 1-2 Yard Gains.  Although JacQuizz did not look special on Monday Night, he should get his opportunity to handle more of a load and be more consistent with his carries instead of once after every 20 plays.  Quizz has the potential to be a top 20 fantasy RB, and his time to take over can happen any week now.

BRANDON LLOYD – WR – NE

Lloyd is Bradys favorite WR after Hernandez and Gronk.  With Hernandez now gone, Gronk is going to get doubled.  This means that Lloyd should be in store for some monster games. He does go up against the best corners, but he also is one of the best “most undervalued” WRs in the game.  B-Lloyd had monster seasons with terrible QBs, now he has Brady.  Soon the numbers will catch up.

REGGIE WAYNE – WR – IND

I put him on the list last week.  I will put him on this list one last time.  He is a top 10 WR when it all said and done.  He gets targets on targets on targets. The Colts also do not like running the ball.  Do yourself a favor and give up a superstar like Larry Fitzgerald who does not have a QB for Reggie.  He is as safe as it gets for over 70 Yards a game, he is a PPR machine, and he soon those 100 Yard/1 TD games will come regularly.

SELL (TRADE AWAY)

PHILLIP RIVERS – QB – SD

This is the prime sell high time for Rivers.  He just threw 3 TDs against the worst defense in the NFL right now.  One of the worst.  Now the Chargers are bringing back Ryan Mathews which only means…They are going to run the ball more.  Rivers is as inconsistent as they come, you can package him in a trade with any of the guys listed below and gets a superstar QB.

FRANK GORE – RB – SF

People who own Gore are walking on sunshine after his big game against a good Lions run defense.  I’m about to shoot your sunshine down with a sniper.  Brandon Jacobs is nearly healthy.  When Jacobs returns, he is going to steal goal line carries.  As the season progresses, Gore will start to wear down and those Kendall Hunter/Anthony Dixon/LaMichael James stud RBs will look fresher.  Trade now while he still has top 20 RB value, even for Trent Richardson straight up.

MICHAEL TURNER – RB – ATL

I put him on the list last week.  I will put him on the list this week.  He was lucky he scored that TD.  First of all it was 1st and goal at the 1.  It took him 3 attempts to get in, and he barely got in.  The Falcons know he is done, but nobody wants to come out and admit it.  Turner the burner is burnt out, he has two more games to prove otherwise.  Package him in a trade since his stand-alone value is not high anymore.

JAMAAL CHARLES – RB – KC

Charles suffered a knee bruise Sunday which explains his terrible game.  The bad news is, it is his bad knee, and he had to leave because of a knee bruise. The NFL season is only in Week 3, Charles is going to get hit in that knee at least 150 more times.  If you don’t agree he will be hit in that knee that many times, then trade him now as his value would be terrible for a RB who gets less than 200 touches.  This game against the Saints is his make-or-break game of the season.  If he fails against this run defense, just watch his value go into free fall.  Make the move now, before you have nothing.  He still has top 20 value.

KEVIN SMITH – RB – DET

I put Smith on this list last week.  Now it is likely too late to get much for him.  Still it does not hurt to dangle his name in a trade, the other owner may think he is good enough to hold off Leshoure.  Even if that is the case, you still have to remember that his ankles are made of glass.  One hard shot to those, and he will turn into a 3rd down back the rest of the season.

GREG JENNINGS – WR – GB

What team player has a Star QB and 5 other players that are a threat to have a monster game.  Greg Jennings.  Cedric Benson is now a threat to take 15+ Carries every game (That was not the case last season).  JerMichael Finley/Jordy Nelson/Donald Drivers/James Jones/Randall Cobb are also threats to score a TD, and or have a big game.  Of course Jennings will be the most consistent of them all, it does not mean you should not trade him instantly for a top 20 WR.  Jennings is in for a long frustrating season where it is best to sell low and move along.

LARRY FITZGERALD – WR – ARI

If you can get any value for Fitz.  Get what you can.  I have mentioned him as a Bust all season.  Last week I put him on this article, this is maybe the last week you can get top 20 value for him.

  1. What would be a fair trade for Jennings??

    Wayne, Harvin??

    I’m in a .5 PPR league

I was waiting all day to check out your trade info.

  2. I’ve got Steve Johnson, Malcolm Floyd, Brandon LaFell, Jaquizz Rodgers, Willis McGahee, Cedric Benson and Alfred Morris. Who should I offer for Chris Johnson? Also, he has Antonio Brown and Tony Gonzalez (I have Matt Ryan and don’t have a backup for Pettigrew).

  3. Damn Muntra! Each article that comes out is full of good info! Embarassment of riches.

With all of these TEs about to blow up, which two would you keep short term and which one long term? Pettigrew, Bennett and Witten

  4. 10 team standard: qb, wr, wr, wr, rb, rb, te, flex (w/r/t), k, def.
    My starting line up: qb> E.Manning, wr> J. Jones, wr> S.Johnson, wr> P.Garcon, rb> Foster, rb> BJGE, te> Pettigrew, flex> A. Brown, k> Hanson, Def: open.
    My bench: rb’s > S. Jackson & D. Richardson, D. Brown, M. Leshore, B. Tate, F. Jackson, wr’s> Britt, T. Young.
I’m going to mention 4 teams and the players your high on. So, please take some time and help me land some. Thanks.
Team #1: I’ve targeted Mcgahee’s owner, but he wants to hold and tried to push Fitzs for a starter Wr’s. Not gonna, but how do I turn him for Mcgahee? And what should I pay?
Team #2: Colston for a #20 wr’s? So, S. Johnson or P. Garcon (but hurt)? Or?
Team #3: Witten and Blackmon? he needs Rb help- maybe Pettigrew and … ?
Team #4: My younger brother owns C. Johnson, Lloyd, Mcfadden (I mention him cause the team’s struggling with their start of season schedule and my brother’s team is 0-2 to start the season) What’s the way? I want to buy low, but If I can get Foster teamed up with one of these backs/wr I should try. Right? How?
    Thanks, again.

  6. i have tate who im always hesitant to start. should i trade him for either colston, lloyd ,or any of the other players you mentioned?

  7. Muntz,

I have These guys on my team. Blackmon is on my waiver wire, anyone I should drop for him?
    QB Tom Brady, NE QB
    QB Matt Ryan, Atl QB
    RB Darren McFadden, Oak RB
    RB Steven Jackson, StL RB
    RB/WR Cedric Benson, GB RB
    WR Marques Colston, NO WR
    WR Reggie Wayne, Ind WR
    TE Brandon Pettigrew, Det TE
    Bench Antonio Gates, SD TE
    Bench Steve Johnson, Buf WR
    Bench Jason Witten, Dal TE
    Bench Jacquizz Rodgers, Atl RB
    Bench Andrew Luck, Ind QB
    Bench Doug Martin, TB RB
    Bench Rashard Mendenhall, Pit RB

  8. Right now somebody just dropped Blackmon in my league and I like all my bench players, So I was thinking about dropping Rivers and picking him up? I have Brady so Rivers is never going to start over him. Would I be crazy for doing so?

  9. If you can get Reggie Wayne for Jennings you come out as a winner.

Thanks for being a dedicated fan!

  10. You may have to part ways with Stevie Johnson. First offer Floyd or Morris. Trading Stevie straight up is a tough pill to swallow, you can bail on the idea if it gets to that point.

  11. B.Marsh IMO will finish as the #2 WR when it is all said and done. If you have the RB depth for the move, then pull the trigger.

  12. Thanks Silent.

Long-Term and short-term Pettigrew is the most valuable.

Love Tellus, but I rather own Brandon

  13. Nope I like the move.

Davis is selling a bit high for the lower Gates, and Gates should be the one you want to own all along.

  14. Thanks for the compliments Dan.

If you went with Gates, he should still reward you with a similar game if not better than Tellus.

  15. Jason. Questions like this you should think about the VIP program #3.

#1. Do not understand the question. Where does Fitzgerald come into play I do not see him on your roster.

#2. If you can get Colston for Garcon, you win.

#3. and Leshoure for Blackmon and Witten could work. Your team could use the extra WR also.

#4. I would have to see your entire brothers roster to check that out.

I wish I could help more and I appreciate you taking the time to write this whole thing out. I just don’t understand all the questions..

  16. m3mphi5- Your value in Rivers is someone with a bad Qb doesn’t get to start him. Thats a plus for you. If your wr corps is halfway decent, than Blackmon will never get a start even at the flex spot. So why would you consider dropping him? Also IF Brady gets hurt you get to roll with Rivers instead of a Mark Sanchez (shudders).
    Best!

  17. Hi Munt,

I’m being offered Brandon Marshel for Brandon Lloyd. My other receivers are Percy, Hartline, Anquan, J. Jones and Alshon.
    What say you?

    thanks!

  18. Bermingham, you don’t need Muntra to tell you that is a fantastic trade for you. No questions you will have ELITE WR depth if you have B Marsh, Julio Jones, and Percy harvin.

Pounce before he decides to withdraw his offer.

  19. Should I trade Jamaal Charles for Chris Johnson? Charles is my starting Flex option this week, and his replacement for this week would be McGahee if I trade him away.

  20. Jamaal Charles is my starting Flex player this week. Should I trade him for Chris Johnson, and start McGahee as my Flex?

  21. Hiyas Muntradamus,

Thanks for a great site! I love the depth you go into. I have a question regarding your suggesting to pick up JACQUIZZ RODGERS – RB – ATL. He is shown as the #3 RB on their depth chart, and the dude is only 5’6 200lbs, can he take the beating to be a full time back? I havent seen much of ATL football, so thanks for the education.

    A Fan

  22. Quizz is a pocket BEAST.

He runs with power and he is not easy to tackle.

He is only a few weeks from getting the #1 spot to himself. Turner looks really slow.

He is the #2 RB on the team. Plays all 3rd downs and this is a week where he can move in front of Turner.

  23. Charles has the better matchup.

This is the game that determines the rest of his season. If you want to sink or swim with Jamaal play him. If you want to trade him, this could be your last opportunity.

If it means anything, CJ should have a rough week.

Long-Term. I would rather have CJ. Charles and that knee scares me, and i don’t even own him.

  24. I recently found this site and am very impressed with what I have seen with it so far. I’m curious…what is the value for Jamaal Charles after his big game? Should his owners sell him high in a trade?

  25. Thoughts on this trade:

I get Brees, CJ2K, and Randall Cobb for Cam Newton, Doug Martin, and Pierre Garcon.

My RB situation is McFadden, Michael Turner, Mikel Leshoure, and Mendenhall

  26. I have:
    Eli
    Ray Rice
    Jamaal
    Dez
    Denarius
    Scott Chandler
    Reggie
    Welker
    Amendola

I made a trade for Victor Cruz for Jamaal n Welker..
    What do you think?

  27. I think both Welker and Jamaal lose more value as the season goes on. Both are great now.

Victor Cruz has an incredibly easy playoff schedule.

Not a bad trade, but I don’t think it works out in your favor when it matters the most.

The key is Charles staying healthy.
