Fantasy Football:

Smoked The Blount (Preseason Week 3)

By Muntradamus

BEAST DOME NATION.

A lot of you did not have time to watch Preseason Week 3.  Well I managed the time to watch every single one of them, and here is what I learned from a fantasy football perspective.

Fantasy Football

PRESEASON WEEK 1: I Ain’t Passin’ The Blount
PRESEASON WEEK 2: Passin’ The Blount

DOUG MARTIN HAS PASSED BLOUNT AND IT IS NOT EVEN CLOSE

Martin was in on nearly every play while Blount sat on the sidelines and watched.  The worst news for Blount and Martin is the Buc’s lost their all pro Guard in Joesph.  This means Blount is completely useless as he needs big blocking up the middle, while Martin is much more versatile.

CEDRIC BENSON IS GOING TO BE A BEAST

How this guy is not a 3rd round pick yet kind of baffles me.  He will go at a discount rate as the Packers finally have a true RB.  This is not a James Starks/Ryan Grant type of RB, Benson ran for over 1,000 Yards on back-to-back seasons with the Bengals.  There is no way Starks/Grant would even combine for that on Cincy.  Benson has great upside in this high scoring offense.

LARRY FITZGERALD IS GOING TO HAVE QB PROBLEMS ALL SEASON

If you owned Fitzgerald, you already know that his QB is always a problem.  Kolb and Skleton do not look great, which could make Fitzgerald play outside of the top 5 even though he is maybe the most talented.  Give Fitzgerald Matt Stafford, and watch him take over the record books.

NATE WASHINGTON IS LOOKING LIKE THE #1 WR

Locker has a man crush on Nate, no beating around the bush on this one.  Wright appears to be a factor, and Kenny Britt is returning soon.  Nate may be the #1, but he could get lost in that shuffle.  Did not even mention Jared Cook and the fact the Titans have a RB who needs 20 carries a game.  His value is starting to go up a little faster than it should.

JUSTIN BLACKMON IS ALL THE JAGS GOT

Blackmon will have some big games this season, and he is ready to play like a top 10 Fantasy WR.  Problem is the Jags don’t have an offense that can support Blackmon as a consistent option.  Gabbert still has room to grow, but at least we should see 1,000 Yards and 8 TDs from the rookie Blackmon.

RODDY WHITE & JULIO JONES WILL BE SCORING ALL SEASON LONG

These two are a ridiculous combo, and both are expected to score points every week in this dynamic offense.  Not a bad idea to grab both if you can.

DAVONE BESS COULD EMERGE AS THE #1 WR IN MIA

For what it is worth, Bess could be a specialist  in PPR leagues.  Fasano should be the #1 target, but he continues to drop balls.  Miami is in for a rough season.

NICK FOLES WOULD BE A STARTING QB IN FANTASY FOOTBALL IF VICK WENT DOWN

Foles broke all of Drew Brees HS records.  He threw for over 400 yards multiple times at University of Arizona, and with the weapons the Eagles have…Foles can be a great fantasy option

STEVAN RIDLEY WON THE RB JOB IN NEW ENGLAND

This could be a situation where Ridley is a starting RB all season.  I would take him with confidence as he has top 20 RB potential and goes after round 6.  Shane Vereen is nothing compared to Ridley who should definitely be the goal line RB.

PERCY HARVIN WILL HAVE A HUGE SEASON IF AP GOES DOWN

Harvin thrived when AP was hurt, and this preseason I have seen similar trends.  Harvin gets down field, and Ponder him just missed on a 40 yard bomb for a TD when Harvin already have 50+ Yards.  Lamborghini Percy.

DAVID WILSON CONTINUES TO SHINE

Mentioned it last week, and I will mention it this week.  Wilson has the wheels and speed to make Bradshaw look like a bench RB.  Bradshaw will lose his job at some point this season, bad ankles will not help his case.

BRANDON MARSHALL WILL GO IN BEAST MODE

It’s going to be a TD marathon with the Cutler/Marshall combo back in place.  Mike Tice will get him his numbers.

RUSSELL WILSON WILL MAKE THE SEAHAWKS A GOOD FANTASY TEAM

Wilson helps Marshawn Lynch/Sydney Rice/and Kellen Winslow have a chance to reach a high level of fantasy play.  Wilson is one of those guys who you should target at the end of your draft.  He will be a great start against the Rams twice a year.

ALFRED MORRIS COULD BE WEEK 1 STARTER FOR WASHINGTON

That is worth nothing in long-term value.  If you need a sub for Ryan Matthews or Maurice Jones-Drew.  Morris could be your one minute man.

ANTONIO BROWN CONTINUES TO DOMINATE

Even when Wallace returns, Brown is the #1 WR in this offense.  It was a completely new system with Todd Haley, and Brown was the only one who got to practice it with Big Ben during training camp.  Wallace is done, Brown is GOLD.

FRED JACKSON AND STEVE JOHNSON ARE THE BILLS OFFENSE

If you can own one of these two..great.  If not, you are pushing your luck trusting anybody else.

OAKLAND RAIDERS DEFENSE HITS HARD

Jason Witten, Levi Brown, Matt Stafford, and Kevin Smith have all been injured during the preseason thanks to this ferocious defense.  They are undervalued because of their poor secondary.  Good sleeper defense to watch.

KEVIN SMITH IS GOING TO BE FRAGILE AS GLASS

Kevin Smith already having ankle problems in Week 1 is something I want to avoid.  Last season it was tough dealing with his non-practices and hope he would suit up on Sunday and have a big game.  The season is long, and to have an ankle sprain this early is not a good thing.

BEN TATE CONTINUES TO PROVE HE IS A MUST OWN FOR FOSTER OWNERS

Tate stole a goal line TD from Foster, and this trend will happen all season. Not nesscarily stealing goal line TDs, but he will take precious carries away where Foster would have the chance for some major games.  You may have to get Tate in the 6th/7th round if you end up with Arian.

SAINTS RB SITUATION IS ONE TO AVOID

With Christopher Ivory looking like a bruise tailback, the Saints are too deep at the position.  Sproles is way overvalued for a player who will not be consistent from week-to-week.  I would always look for plan B before drafting a Saints RB.

#1 WR JOB STILL UP FOR GRABS IN STL

Nobody has stepped up to claim the spot.  Danny Amendola has the early lead, Steve Smtih appears to be the one to fall out of the race, while Brian Quick appears to be the favorite with long-term value.  Draft at your own risk.

TONY ROMO WILL BE HUGE IF HIS WEAPONS CAN GET HEALTHY

Witten/Dez/Austin all have injury concerns heading into the season. Romo is looking good throwing balls on the money, if his WR’s are healthy this season watch out.

ERIC DECKER IS BEATING DEMARYIUS THOMAS FOR #1 WR

Both should be fine options for the season, but Decker has the slight edge.  Once Thomas finds his rhythm with Peyton, he will take off and prove to be an undervalued draft pick.

WILLIS MCGAHEE LOST 3RD DOWN ROLE

Not the end of the world.  But it would have been a nice bonus to see McGahee catch the ball in an offense that will be scoring plenty.  Still not worried about McGahee eclipsing 1,000+ Yards and 10 TDs. I expect vintage Edgerin James Colts numbers.

VERNON DAVIS GOING TO BE A BEAST IN NEW SF OFFENSE

With all these new weapons defenses will not be able to double the BEAST.  Expect Vernon Davis to have big games all season long, he will move up in the next released rankings on September 1st.

BILAL POWELL WILL EAT INTO SHONN GREENE’S PT

The Jets offense needs spark players, and Powell is the closest thing they got in that backfield.  Greene reminds me of Cedric Benson, but in this offense with no passing game at all.  That is not a good thing.

DEANGLO WILLIAMS COULD BE MUST-START WEEK 1

Jonathan Stewart messed up his ankle in the preseason game.  He said he is fine, but it did not look good.  Expect Williams to get more reps than J-Stew by a lot with Stewart missing this precious practice time.

  1. Hey Muntradamus,

I’m glad I own many of the bright spots listed in this article. I am definitely looking to upgrade an already strong lineup, though. Russell Wilson and Kenny Britt are free agents in my league. Is either worth a pickup (I’m considering dropping Freeman)? Also, given these two rosters, is there a trade you would make to get Julio Jones?

    My Roster:

    RB – Darren McFadden
    RB – Willis McGahee
    WR – Calvin Johnson
    WR – Roddy White
    TE – Brandon Pettigrew

    D/ST – Lions D/ST
    K – Matt Bryant
    Bench – Victor Cruz
    Bench – Doug Martin
    Bench – Cedric Benson
    Bench – Malcom Floyd
    Bench – Josh Freeman
    Bench – Owen Daniels
    Bench – Jacquizz Rodgers

    His Roster:
    QB – Drew Brees
    RB – Steven Jackson
    RB – Peyton Hillis
    WR – Julio Jones
    WR – Brandon Lloyd
    TE – Jimmy Graham
    FLEX – Demaryius Thomas
    D/ST -Steelers D/ST
