Fantasy Basketball: Where Is The Love?

BEAST DOME NATION.

Fantasy Basketball players.  Welcome back after a 5 month vacation. Many of you found BEAST DOME last year, and right away you were seeing the results.

END OF SEASON TESTIMONIALS

ALL-STAR BREAK TESTIMONIALS

The reason you choose BEAST DOME as your source for Fantasy Sports is because you like the way I corrupt your  minds with the truth and see the game compltely different than the other “experts.”  It leads to winning and keeping you one step ahead of the game.  I have been playing Fantasy Football/Basketball/Baseball my entire life, before I even had a favorite team.

Let’s kick off Basketball the same way we kicked off Football.  IF I had the 1st Overall Pick in this years Fantasy Basketball Draft.  I would draft….

KEVIN LOVE – PF/C – MIN

Look at this stat line.  25 Points. 13 Rebounds. 2 Steals. 1 3PTM. 10/11 FT.

That is the stat line of Kevin Love’s last game in the season before he suffered a concussion.  You look at that and say, “okay those numbers are solid.  I would still rather own LeBron James.”  The thing was, that was not even close to his best game this season.

Now look at this stat line. 51 Points. 14 Rebounds. 1 Steal. 7 3PTM. 12/16 FT.

One of his best games of the season, not even best performance.

KEVIN LOVE (54 Games Played)

6x he did not reach double digit rebounds.

21x he had 15 Rebounds or more.

He went 105/282 from 3PT range.

Scored 20 Points or more 47X.

30 Points or more 19X.

40 Points or more 3X.

50 Points 1X.

379/460 FT = 82.4%

When you look at LeBron, what makes him so fascinating to own is how he gives you everything at the forward position (Assists/Steals/Blocks).  However LeBron does hurt your team in FT %.  He went to the FT line 502x and finished with a 77.2%.  He also struggled to get his 3PT shot going for a major part of the season, he finished with 54 3PTM on the season.  Keep in mind that LeBron played 62 games compared to Love’s 54.

While the steals/assists/blocks are completely in LeBrons favor, I believe you can make up those stats easily with other players.  Kevin Love will single handily take your team to the top in Rebounds.  If you pair him up with a couple other big men, you have a rebound crew that cannot be stopped.

Here’s the deal breaker.

Kevin Love qualifies at Center.  Depth at the Center position is one of the thinnest things Fantasy Basketball Owners can prepare for.  There is only a handful of the ELITE, a lot of them are inconsistent, a lot of them get injured.

KEVIN LOVE RANK WITHIN CENTERS:

3PTM (#1)

FTM (#1)

FT% over 200 FTM (#1)

REB (#2)

PPG (#1)

The fact that Kevin Love qualifies at Center makes him much more dynamic and a player you want to own the entire season over LeBron.  This is for both Roto/Points Leagues.  If I drafted Kevin Love, I would still use him at the Forward position, and I would still draft him over LeBron as Love gives you such dominating numbers which is a great base to build your team off of.  Who says he cannot get better now that the Wolves have parted ways with Michael Beasley, and Love’s confidence booster playing great for US Dream Team this summer.

LeBron owners always have to worry about Wade not stealing all the stats, and now Chris Bosh is due for a larger role now that he is more comfortable with his position on the Heat.  This could hurt you in the Fantasy Basketball Playoffs when you need nothing but ELITE performances from your #1 overall pick.

Do yourself a favor and take Love #1 overall having a player that dominates in a lot of major categories, and he does not hurt you in any.

  1. Awesome to see the Basketball starting up. My league just got started up today with the draft on October 10th. It’s going to come quick.

  2. Wow, never thought someone could make such a good case for picking Love at #1 overall. Great Article.

  3. I’m gonna have to strongly disagree. Love is a beast, but he is not lebron.

    1) love has better weapons around him this year, the wolves will need him to score less.

    2) Lebron played his best ball in play-offs and was the alpha male on Olympic team. The torch has been passed, we may have not seen the best lebron numbers yet.

    3) d-wade is taking a major back seat this year. Ray Allen is gonna cut into his minutes, and spread the floor for Lebron.

    4) Lebron is the most durable player ever( love is nothing to sneeze at either)

  4. Let the Debate Begin.

Whoever else reads this who would you take #1?

You bring up good points, I will offer my counter points.

    1) What better weapons? Andrei Kirlenko and Malcolm Lee are possible starters, neither can score 20 Points in a game. Michael Beasley is gone, the only guy who was not afraid to shoot.

The Heat Weapons that LeBron has to deal with (Wade/Allen/Bosh) would all be the #1 or #2 shooter on the Wolves.

    2) I agree LeBron’s ceiling is the limit. But who says that Kevin Love has reached his either.

    3) D-Wade is still D-Wade. He is not a veteran on his last legs, he is still the #1 SG in the game Fantasy Basketball wise. Ray Allen if anything will be another proven scorer that LeBron has to deal with for FG attempts from time to time. If Allen is hot, he needs the ball.

    4) Lebron is durable. Kevin Love does get injured. But Kevin Love’s injuries is not a knee or something you have to worry about that could derail his career or even this season. Both are fair game for the injury department this season.

I would rather own the #1 C and in my opinion the #1 F because he does not hurt you in any category (LeBron FT%) and gives you the most rebounds and enough 3s where you can flex your strategy in so many different ways.

  5. I would DEFINITELY be taking LOVE 1st overall. He helps on so many stats. Having Love on your team, you already have a leg up in points, fg% and ft%, rebounds (offensive and defensive), and 3-pointers. That’s potentially 6 categories! Every week! There are more ways to make up for not having LeBron than there are for not having Love. I see love as a free ticket to the playoffs if you build smartly around him.

  6. Another Exciting Year in Basketball about to commence. Like I said last year when I made the almighty trade of Carmelo Anthony and Andrea Barganini for Kevin Love in the third week, Kevin Love is number #1 no doubt. Offensive Rebounds, Defensive Rebounds, the three-pointer champion in the All-Star Games beating Kevin Durant (who is also a very remarkable player), Great free-throw percentage, and the list goes on… LeBron James on my team last year was limited by how well Dwade did or Bosh, which will ultimately be the Trend again. Furthermore, Kevin Durant is solid, but Kevin Love is going to be a force to be reckon with as he is the number one scorer on the Timberwolves. Drafting Kevin Love hopefully with my first round pick on October 29th!

    Appreciative,
    Scream

  7. What about now that he broke his hand and is out 4-6 weeks? I was going to draft him 1st overall, but now I don’t know.
