FANTASY BASKETBALL:

NEW BEASTS (2013)

By Muntradamus

BEAST DOME NATION.

Sure I can list out the obvious Breakout BEASTS this season like Anthony Davis and other young Guns who are going to hit the next level in Fantasy Basketball.  This list is the group of players that will be starting on all Fantasy Rosters this season, when they may have never been drafted at all last season.  All of these players listed are Sleepers who were not even starters to start 2012.

These are the Sleepers to not sleep on.  Players that will take the next level and become the next Fantasy BEASTS.

VIP PACKAGES COMING SOON

TOBIAS HARRIS – F – ORL

Do yourself a favor and do not sleep on Tobias Harris.  Tobias Harris is the type of player that can get 20 Points/8 Rebounds with all in the intangibles just as well as the big names in front of him.  He has not even peaked as a player and he is still at the young age of 21.  Tobias is on an Orlando Team that can use all the star power they can get, and Tobias is a Future All-Star in the making.  Playing on a small Market team, he is one of the more undervalued players in Fantasy Basketball.

JEFF GREEN – F – BOS

Last season when Jeff Green got the chance to start because of KG and his breaking down body, Green was a BEAST.  Not always, but more often than not Jeff Green would be among the leaders in Fantasy Basketball the nights he got his opportunities.  With Rajon Rondo injured, Paul Pierce and KG in Brooklyn.  You can expect Jeff Green to take every step nessacary to become the consistent star of this team.  While there will be bumps in the road, his upside is too good to ignore when filling out your roster in the middle rounds.  The guy steals, blocks, and does a lot of nice things for your Fantasy Squad.

NICK YOUNG – G/F – LAL

Nick Young is the perfect player for the D’Antoni offense.  He is probably the best 3PT shooter this team has had since Glen Rice.  Playing with the 76ers, he always had to split time with players like Jason Richardson and Evan Turner.  On the Lakers with a less than 100% Kobe Bryant even when he returns, Nick Young will have to be scoring the ball often.  Nick Young is a pure scorer and has the potential to easily average around 20 Points a game with a lot of 3PTM.  Look for Nick Young to be one of the big steals of your draft.

DERRICK FAVORS – F/C – UTA

Favors was always trapped behind Millsap and Al Jefferson.  With both of them gone, Derrick Favors can finally be the BEAST we all know he is.  Double/Double numbers are guaranteed this season, and heavy Block/Steal numbers will remind you of Dwight Howard.  Unfortunately so will his FT% as he shoots in the 60% range and goes to the line a lot.  Derrick Favors is going to be a big time player in this league, and it all starts this season do not let him slip.

ENES KANTER – C – UTA

Kanter was also trapped behind Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap.  With both gone, Kanter becomes an automatic double/double machine just like Favors as well.  Kanter is very skilled offensively and could be one of the go-to-guys on this boring Jazz squad.  Look for Kanter to be one of the biggest steals of your drafts as he should be valued as a Top 15 Center and will likely not be drafted as one.  Kanter is the real deal.

BRADLEY BEAL – G – WAS

Bradley Beal really took over the Wizards while John Wall missed a majority of the season.  He was scoring 20 reguaraly and knocking down 3PT shots in his sleep.  Look for the Wiz to get Beal a lot of action this season and be a consistent guard, but before you reach too high on him.  Do keep in mind that John Wall will be healthy all season, and Martell Webster/Trevor Ariza are still lurking around to take his FG attempts.  Still, do not let Beal slip as he can easily average 16 Points a game with good 3PTM/Steal numbers.

DEEP SLEEPERS

JARED SULLINGER – F – BOS

Sullinger will step up to the plate if Jeff Green does not.  Sullinger has been shooting a lot of 3PT shots this preseason, and he is shooting them with confidence so far.  Jared was a superstar for an Ohio State that had a lot of good garbage role players around him.  This Boston Celtics team is very similar until Rajon Rondo returns, and Jared could make himself be the go-to-option.

JONAS VALANCIUNAS – C – TOR

Jonas dominated the Summer League.  While it was impressive against a lot of players who are not even in the NBA now, it is good to take note of his potential upside being on a Raptors team that lost a lot of their big men depth.  With only Amir Johnson/Tyler Hansbrough and 50 Shades of Gray, look for Jonas to take the next step in being the double-double guy he could be.  With that being said, do not reach too high for him.

DEANDRE JORDAN – C – LAC

DeAndre is a serious threat to take the next step.  He is gaining a lot of popularity being such a BEAST, who has no confidence in his offensive game.  Blocks/Rebounds come automatic, now he needs to start scoring.  Scoring with consistency is the bigger issue.  I would take the chance that DeAndre realizes his potential and becomes the star we all know he can be.

MICHAEL KIDD-GILCHRIST – F – CHA

MKG is a good poor mans Gerald Wallace.  He will get all the intangible stats, but he will not score that many points.  This season things can change in Charlotte as they are still a young team looking for answers.  Their best unit will be when they go extra small with Al Jefferson at Center.  That would push MKG at the PF and there is a lot of fantasy opportunity if the Bobcats decide to be the running team they should be.

KEVIN SERPAHIN – F/C – WAS

With Emeka Okafor likely out for a majority of the season.  Seraphin gets his chance to be a consistent starter in the NBA.  Seraphin is a good inside scorer and can rebound as well.  Look for Seraphin to be a cheap source of double/doubles that you can get very late in your draft.  The Wizards will use Nene a lot as their go-to post option, but Seraphin will get enough PT to get his numbers.

  1. Any opinions on John Wall? I have a feeling he’s going to be a BEAST this year. He was putting up crazy numbers at the end of last year.
