FANTASY BASEBALL: Daily Pitcher Rankings (April 16th)

RECAP OF WEEK 2:

Sleeper of the Day: (5-2) 41 INN. 34 Ks. 14 ER. 4 Win. (3.07 ERA)

Ivan Nova, Bruce Chen, Dillon Gee, Lance Lynn, Jake Westbrook..these are just some of the names that no other expert trusted, but I knew they were ready to dominate.

Guess That Save of the Day: (2-5)

Longest Streak= 3W.    Current Streak= 3L.

Loss my touch of picking closers, but still got 2 right this week.  I will look to be more accurate and top my opening 3 game save streak to start the season.

Locks: (4-10)
*Anything but a Win, is a loss for my record.

My locks were all bad-luck.  First week I only got two wrong, this week I got double digit wrong.  Hopefully flukes do not happen as often as we think.

Start’em: (23-4)

*A QS or W= Win
*A Bad Start or Loss= Loss

Maybe picking pitchers as locks put too much pressure on them.  When they were a start’em option, it was an 85% correct rate.  I will take that, and so should you.
50/50: (76-22)
*A QS or ND = Win.
*A Loss or Bad Start = A loss.

More than 50% of the time the pitcher I listed has a QS or a ND.  So chances are if you see your pitcher on this list, time to get excited, you have a 77% chance of either of the two happening.

Bench’em: (26-12)
*A Loss for the SP=a win for my record.
*A Win for the SP= a loss for my record.
*IF NO WIN/LOSS=QS is a Loss for my record.  Bad Start is a Win for my record.

I would prefer a perfect record, but still cannot complain about being at 75% correct.

Monday 4/16
(All Records are for the week)

NEW!!!

HR PICK OF THE DAY:

ADAM DUNN vs. Bal

Sleeper of the Day:

*A QS or W= Win
*A Bad Start or Loss= Loss

Jeremy Guthrie vs. SD
– I want to start out the sleeper pick strong this week, and taking a pitcher against the Padres is always a good idea.  Guthrie was shaky in his last start against SF, but I expect him to bounce back in this one.

Guess That Save of the Day:

Longest Streak= 3W.    Current Streak= 3L.

Craig Kimbrel vs. NYM

Locks:
*Anything but a Win, is a loss for my record.

1. Justin Verlander @ KC – Verlander against the Royals is like Kim Kardashian against Kris Humprhies.  Just like Humphries he is going to have sit back and take it.  Nothing the Royals can do about it besides move onto the next game.

2. Jered Weaver vs. Oak – Dream Weaver has a dream matchup against an offense that can make Blake Beaven look like a fantasy starter.  I expect Weaver to dominate in this start.

3. Stephen Strasburg vs. Hou – Strasburg may be the best pitcher in the NL right now, and facing up against the Astros just does not seem fair.  Add to the fact he is home and I see an automatic W.

Start’em:

*A QS or W= Win
*A Bad Start or Loss= Loss

4. Roy Halladay @ SF – Halladay against the Giants should result in a W.  It does help that he is facing the struggling Tim Lincecum, but it does not help that the Phillies offense is going through a bad stretch.

5. Tommy Hanson vs. NYM – The Mets are playing their best baseball right now as they beat Cliff Lee, Vance Worley, and nearly Cole Hamels on Sunday.  Hanson is not as safe as it seems, but he should win this game.

6. Joe Saunders vs. Pit – Saunders was perfect in his first start against SD, and now faces Pittsburgh.  Can the season start out an easier for Saunders this season?  If he pitches well he will be the most overrated fantasy option for the week.

50/50: (76-22)
*A QS or ND = Win.
*A Loss or Bad Start = A loss.

7. Tim Lincecum vs. Phi –
Timmy needs to bounce back strong for a good game against the slumping Phillies to get some fantasy respect back.  This is the matchup to do it, and he has a 50/50 shot of turning on his vintage form and beating Roy Halladay.

8. Erik Bedard @ AZ – Bedard gets a nice matchup against a Diamondback team that has been a bit inconsistent.  Chris B. Young is red hot right now, and if Bedard can shut him down along with Justin Upton, then things should go in his favor.  Run support could be a problem.

9. Brandon McCarthy @ LAA – I like McCarthy a lot this season, but I do not like his matchup against Jered Weaver.  You can hope for the QS, but the Angels offense is starting to heat up a bit.  There is not a good chance McCarthy gets the W.

10. James Shields @ Bos – You gotta start Shields because it’s James Shields.  He was great in his last matchup against the Tigers, and it is very possible he is great in this matchup against the Red Sox.  The fact that the Sox offense is heating up does make Shields a bit risky, I think you throw the dice.

11. Corey Luebke @ Col – Luebke has been off to a terrible start.  Facing the Rockies he does have a chance to pull off a QS, and a win.  If there was a start where Corey needs to bounce back, this could be the first time his value starts to drop considerably.

12. Phil Humber vs. Bal – The Orioles offense is an offense pitchers can slow down.  The White Sox should be able to pull off the home victory, and Humber has looked solid so far in his lone start this season.

13. Freddie Garcia vs. Min – If there was ever a start to throw Freddie Garcia out there, against the Twins would be the time to do it.  The Yankees offense should smash Carl Pavano and his 86 MPH fastball.  Garcia will hold his own fate for the W.

14. Daniel Bard vs. TB – The Red Sox offense is heating up, and that can only mean good things for Bard who just has to throw a QS to get the win.  The only problem is he is facing James Shields who is ready for a pitchers duel.  It is a long shot, but you could possibly get the W from Bard.

15. Jake Arrieta @ CWS – Jake is not a pitcher to trust going into any matchup, but he has shown the ability to throw a QS.  If he can get pass Adam Dunn who I think is going to break out tomorrow, then you can a long shot chance on Arrieta.

16. Dillon Gee @ Atl – Gee does not have a great matchup against the Braves and Tommy Hanson.  But he does have a great spark in the clubhouse with how well the Mets have been playing.  I would not start Gee, but he does have the chance to keep the Mets surprise season continue.

Bench’em: (26-12)
*A Loss for the SP=a win for my record.
*A Win for the SP= a loss for my record.
*IF NO WIN/LOSS=QS is a Loss for my record.  Bad Start is a Win for my record.

17. Danny Duffy @ Det
– Duffy looked amazing against the A’s.  The Tigers are not the A’s, and he is in Detroit.  Bench him.

18. Kyle Weiland vs. Was – Weiland against the Stephen Strasburg show, does not look good on paper.  Therefore I would not start him.

19. Carl Pavano @ NYY – Pavano against the Yankees.. Do I have to repeat that matchup again.  And it is in New York.

  1. Hello again Muntradamus and other Baseball goers,
I am curious on the right strategy for picking up pitchers daily to rack in some points and the right setup for my players. In other words, How many days do SP pitchers pitch in a given week? And how many days do RP pitchers pitch in a given week? Also, how many 1B men, OF people and so forth should I have for the most efficient lineup? Im fairly new to baseball, but have acquired some decent trades. Thanks for your time and here is a link to my current lineup for tomorrow: http://games.espn.go.com/flb/boxscorefull?leagueId=23396&teamId=3&scoringPeriodId=21&seasonId=2012&view=scoringperiod&version=full
    Benevolently,
    Scream aka Garrett

  2. Garrett your team looks solid.

SPs pitch once every 5 games. If they start on Monday/Tuesday, they will most likely pitch twice in that week. All other days they will pitch only once.

RPs really depends on if their is a save situation or a tied game in the 9th INN. If you can get 3 saves from a closer in one week, that is considered a great week.

You have the perfect amount of players at all your positions on your team, you do not need to make any changes.

The season is very young, and your team definitely has championship potential.

    Keep it rolling.
