  1. Hey Beasts, I’m in a head-to-head league where an extra pitching category has been added – holds. I’m looking to upgrade after reading Munt’s Bullpen Report where he says Jared Burton will be giving up a lot of runs. I added Burton because he was atop the player pool when I sorted by projected holds. But I’m not too happy with my choice anymore as I’ve noticed he has the highest projected ERA and WHIP of all my pitchers. Not to mention Minnesota lost 96 games last year and was ranked almost dead last in both team hitting and pitching.

So who should I replace him with? It would be nice if the guy had a chance to vulture some Wins or Saves, got good Strike-outs, and didn’t hurt my ERA or WHIP ratios. Since all the good Closers are gone, Saves are hard to find on the waiver wire for now and I’m looking for someone that will get me at least 20 Holds. I sorted by projected holds again and most strong setup men had been drafted but I can still get Mike Dunn MIA, Santiago Casilla SF, Sean Marshall CIN, Ryan Cook OAK, and Bruce Rondon DET. I have an open bench spot so after dropping Burton I could maybe grab two of these guys if they are worth it.

Thanks and GOOD LUCK in 2014, GO BEAST NATION!!!

  2. I wanted to add that Marshall and Cook are injured but I noticed another intriguing free agent available in Jordan Walden.

  3. If you can get Rex Brothers, you have struck gold. He will be the closer early on for the Rockies once age catches up to Latroy Hawkins.

Out of that list go for Mike Dunn. Chances are if any Marlin game is close, Mike Dunn will be ready to go. He is the only guy outside of Cishek the Marlins trust.

  4. Brothers is a great recommendation as he could chip in and get some saves as Mike mentioned but for holds, I would look at teams that have an established Closer that will win a lot of games.

Mark Melancon, Tyler Clippard, Santiago Casilla, Jake McGee and Edward Mujica are my top choices but if holds are now a part of your league, I would assume that they might already be gone.

  5. The last sleeper option I got for you regarding Holds is Sergio Santos. The Blue Jays will be using Santos like a Closer who does not pitch in save situations.

What I mean by that. Anytime the game is close before the 9th INN. The game is getting late. The Jays will go to Santos without a second thought. His K potential is through the roof.
