FANTASY START OF THE WEEK 11: Vernon Davis

Fantasy Start of the Week 11:  Vernon Davis

By Muntradamus

Time to treat Vernon Davis like the top 5 TE you drafted him to be.

This is how Top 20 TE’s have performed vs. AZ this year:

(Standard League Rankings)

#8 Greg Olsen.  4 catches 78 yards

#6 Fred Davis.  6 catches 86 yards 1 TD

#10 Jake Ballard.  3 catches 33 yards 1 TD

#13 Heath Miller.  4 catches 68 yards 1 TD.

#15 Ed Dickson 6 catches 46 yards and 2nd string TE Dennis Pitta 6 catches 44 yards.

#20 Brent Celek leading receiver with 4 catches 53 yards.

Defenses can’t key in on Davis like they use to last year.  Crabtree and Edwards are pure threats on the outside and if safeties fall asleep on them, they’re giving up the chances for some big plays.  Plus Delaney Walker the #2 TE is making things easier for Davis by producing when they do double the beast.  This past week Walker led the 49ers in receiving with 6 catches 69 yards.  Though Vern was the one with the TD.

Last year against Cardinals, Vern put up these numbers.

Game 1:  2 catches for 32 yards

Game 2:  3 catches for 96 yards and a TD.

The 49ers blew out the Cards in both games last year, and he could argue that this week will be different.  Though this time around Alex Smith is a better QB, and Frank Gore isn’t 100% so look for Alex Smith to try to lead his team to victory against the all of a sudden hot Cardinals, that somehow beat the Eagles in Philly.  With John Skelton at the helm.

This is the week that will remind you why you took Vernon Davis as high as round 6 in some drafts and in front of the studs such as Graham and Gronkowski.  Only if we could go back in time.
