Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Blast From The Past (Week 8)

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire:

Blast From The Past (Week 8)

By Muntradamus

BEAST DOME NATION.

Last week it was DeMarco Murray who had the foot injury, the week before that it was Cedric Benson, this week it was Maurice Jones-Drew.  While the injury bug is never an easy thing to predict, it is always good to be prepared.  This is a friendly reminder to get your insurance players for your studs.  Season is still not half way over and there will be many of injuries to come every week.

After Week 1 I told you to grab JacQuizz Rodgers/Martellus Bennett/Alfred Morris/Randall Cobb/Scott Chandler/Broncos.
WEEK 2 WAIVER WIRE

After Week 2 I told you to grab Mikel Leshoure/Andre Brown/Ryan Succop/Bilal Powell/Brian Hartline.
WEEK 3 WAIVER WIRE

After Week 3 I told you to grab Ryan Fitzpatrick and Danny Woodhead who both had good weeks.
WEEK 4 WAIVER WIRE.

After Week 4 I told you to add James Jones/Rams Def/Brandon Bolden
WEEK 5 WAIVER WIRE .

After Week 5 I told you add Josh Gordon/Brandon Gibson/William Powell/TB Defense/Shaun Suisham.
WEEK 6 WAIVER WIRE

After Week 6 I told you to play Josh Freeman/Randall Cobb/Josh Gordon/Dallas Clark
WEEK 7 WAIVER WIRE.

..and many more useful players in each article.  If you see a player that you think should be on this list, chances are they have been mentioned earlier in previous Waiver  Wire articles above.  Since most of the players have been covered in previous weeks.  There have been some changes made to the way this article is usually done.

WEEK 8 WAIVER WIRE

MATT HASSELBECK – QB – TEN

Hassel is a much better QB at home, and that is where he will be when he takes on a dreadful Colts defense Sunday.  Matt Hasselbeck is a great bye week flier while the Titans try to pretend Jake Locker is still their best QB this season.  The Titans offense looks much more explosive than it ever has this season, even against the Pittsburgh Steelers in a crucial Thursday Night game.

Other Bye Week Fliers: Carson Palmer @ KC/ Sam Bradford vs. NE

RASHAD JENNINGS – RB – JAX

Looks like Maurice Jones-Drew owners could be going through the Cedric Benson injury.  That would likely end the season of MJD leaving, Rashad “Weren’t You a Week 1 Bust” Jennings, as your starting RB.  Jennings is the #1 guy off of all waiver wires as he rushed for over 5 YPC in each of his first two seasons in the NFL.  He will likely be a force on all Fantasy Football teams to close out the season.

LAROD STEPHENS-HOWLING – RB – ARI

LRSH is not a player you need to get over the top excited about.  He is a player that could possibly make a difference as a deep bye-week flier or a weak Flex play.  Although he stole the show this past week, no reason to think William Powell will just disappear from this rotation.  I would not drop anyone valuable to grab him.

JONATHAN DWYER – RB – PIT

He may be worth a player if Rashard Medenhall has to sit out another week.  Right now it does not look promising for that to happen, which means Dwyer is not a priority.  He could potentially get some PT in the future, but is a #4 Fantasy RB at best when both Redman and Medenhall are healthy.

KEVIN SMITH – RB – DET

If you read this far down congratulations.

This could be the Waiver Claim that wins you your league.  Funny that we are making full circle as he was the reason BEAST DOME was started last year based on his bold prediction for everyone to add him back in 2011.  With Leshoure fumbling, with Joique Bell fumbling.  Why would Kevin Smith not be the RB again soon.  I’m adding him now.

RBs Owned in less than 80% Of Leagues

1. JacQuizz Rodgers – Not doing much to earn the respect of anyone. Still Michael Turner looks like a candidate who will not last strong all season.

2. Brandon Bolden – Stevan Ridley did not do much to impress Sunday. Bolden can easily get the job back when healthy.

3. James Starks – Are you really impressed with Alex Green this far?  Coach Mike McCarthy may have a man crush on those dreads because he is clearly not the better RB.

SIDNEY RICE – WR – SEA

The Lions defense is not good against the pass.  This week Sidney Rice is a great matchup play, and that is exactly the type of WR Rice is.  Look for him to have a great week and likely be featured more throughout the week leading up to Sunday.

TITUS YOUNG – WR – DET

The new #2 WR for the Detroit Lions.  Nate Buerlson broke his leg which means Titus Young will finally get his chances to show what he can do in this big role.  He became a forgotten man who only had one big catch this season on a hail mary.  Now he is Staffords go-to-read if Calvin Johnson is getting heavily covered.

SANTANA MOSS – WR – WAS

Santana Moss is back in Fantasy relevance land.  This time for good.  The Redskins need a #1 WR now that Garcon has a torn foot.  Santana Moss is easily that guy as he has done this role many times before.  The speed is not the same, but he still has a 700 Yard/7 TD season buried in him.  Now is a good time to take a stab at the veteran.

DARRIUS HEYWARD-BEY – WR – OAK

The Raiders have a nice matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.  The same Chiefs that give up big games to #2 WRs frequently.  If you are looking for a nice HR play this week, DHB looks to be your man as he can easily have a sleeper 85 Yards 1 TD game.

DUSTIN KELLER – TE – NYJ

Keller mania is back, and he is by far the best option in the Jets passing game.  At least the most trusted by Mark Sanchez.  With Santonio Holmes out for the year, expect Keller to be one of the most heavily targeted TEs in the game.

DALLAS CLARK – TE – TB

The Bucs offense is rolling again, and Dallas Clark look to be back to his vintage self.  After complaining about not enough PT or targets, this week he stepped up big time.  He made a big 4th down reception late in the game.  He caught a TD on 4th down as well.  Dallas Clark is back, which makes Freeman an even better QB.
Other Bye Week Fliers: Coby Fleener @ Ten/Brandon Myers @ KC/Chris Cooley @ PIT

ADAM VINATIERI – K – IND

Colts have a very friendly matchup against the Titans.  Which likely means a high-scoring game where Adam can be counted on frequently.  I would make it a point to pick him up in all leagues I need a kicker.

Other Bye Week Fliers: Rob Bironas vs. IND/Jason Hanson vs. SEA

LIONS – D/ST – DET

Lions defense was able to get pressure on the QB and slow down a solid running attack.  That was on a Monday Night against a Division Rival on the Road.  This week they get friendly Seahawks in a great matchup at home early Sunday Afternoon.  Expect the Lions to avenge their loss and come out like a brand new football team.

Other Bye Week Fliers: SD @ cle/OAK @ kc/

  1. Hey Muntra,

What do you think about Ryan Broyles? He’s third on the depth chart, but he looked better tonight than Titus Young looked in his first five games.

    Thomas

  2. Hey Munt!

Which TE do you think has the best value for the rest of the season: Keller, Bennet or Cook?

    Thanks in advance

  3. I have the Dallas Def. Should I go with the Lions on Waiver?

Also I have Peyton vs NO this week or Freeman vs MIN. Thanks for the Freeman advice! I won my match this last week!!!

  4. opinions guys. give murray and britt for magahee or give murray and maclin for magahee? Is both a good or bad trade proposal on my part? my other receivers are cruz and austin/romo combo.

  5. Should I accept the trade of Wes Welker/Jermaine Gresham and he is offering Doug Marting and Blount..This is a PPR League..

  6. Nick… Grab Lions Def as Dallas is going to be in a tough divisional game where points will be put on the board.

  7. Nick, definitely roll with Peyton. The NO defense is incapable of stopping anyone. You could almost stream quarterbacks against them. Bcalum, Murray should still hold enough value that you don’t have to package Britt or Maclin with him for Willis (in my opinion). If you do package players you should be able to get someone else in return. Who else does he have on his roster?

  8. Strength of schedule second half leans towards MaGahee and keeping Maclin, plus for what ever reason, because they have McCoy, Philly likes to pass. Dallas will need Murray but I haven’t heard a time frame on his injury.

  9. With Murray and Mendenhall sidelined, help me rank my waiver wire options. I’m thinking Jennings>Kevin Smith> Felix Jones. I still have DMC and Steven Jackson to play.

  10. Is it worth it for me to pick up Freeman, considering I have big ben and he has already had his bye week and the rest of his schedule is relatively soft? I only can pick up 4 more free agents….and two of those spots are for a kicker and a defense? Appreciate the input! I also am going for Jennings too even though it is such a trendy pickup I do not think MJD is coming back.

  11. I think Murray straight up is a fair trade, but if you have to do it go with Britt and Murray for McGahee. Maclin has the better looking schedule for the next two games, and he is coming out of a bye week which could mean lots of targets for him.

  12. Stick with Big Ben… He is a good enough QB to get through the season. While Freemans hot it will die down and its a safer pick to save your waiver wire pick for a late playoff run.

  13. Dustin Keller. Sanchez will use him abundantly! Bennett has a tough schedule and Cook will see less targets because of Britt coming back!

  14. Peyton versus New Orleans… NO question. Even though Freeman will be passing a bunch versus the MIN great run defense. Peyton is the safer play as this will be the shootout of the year IMO~

  15. Have RG3, need best week 10 bye/injury replacement for rest of season from: Ponder, Tannehil, Bradford. Also available are Weeden (also a week 10 bye) and Locker (still out).

I only want to carry 2 QBs

    Advice?

  16. Thanks man that is really the way I was leaning too. What do you think of me spoiling one of my waiver spots this week on Rashad Jennings? I already put a claim in for him. I have Alfred Morris, BJE, Murray, Ballard, And Blount. I was going to drop Blount, I feel like this FA pick up is just as big as Morris was!

  17. PPR – I’m 5-2 currently in Third

Through trades and waiver wires I have been working since WK1 to get my lineup set for the remainder of the season barring injuries of course.

I feel like I have a very good/solid team to see me through the end but not really sure if Josh Freeman is the guy I can count on as my QB1

I had Rivers but due to his wk6 melt down I kicked him to the curb (Waivers) here is the list of QB’s on waivers, in your opinion is Freeman a QB1 ROS or do you see one who I should add as either a QB1 or playing the matchups? – Fitzpatrick, Weeden, Bradford, Rivers, Sanchez, R Wilson, Tannehill, Locker

    QB – Freeman
    WR- Calvin Johnson
    WR – Percy Harvin,
    RB)- Lynch
    RB – Ryan Matthews,
    Flex W/R/T – McGahee
    TE – Hernandez –
    BN – Josh Gordon
    BN – Jeremy Kerley
    BN – Dustin Keller –
    BN – LeShoure

  18. PPR – I’m 5-2 currently in Third

  19. If u don’t have someone more established to get, he is not a bad option to hold onto& see what he does. I think it will be Titus, but you never know for sure

  20. It really depends on your TE situation, if u have a sous option, then yes otherwise I would decline

  21. That is a good ranking, I’m not a Felix fan, he was only good the week he was injured because they didn’t fully gameolan for him. He sucked as a starter before, this is his last chance ti prove himself, but not worth more than a flex play

  22. Yes get Rashad to pair with Morris… you wont be sorry because I think the Jags aren’t being truthful of how bad the MJD injury is. Rashad is one of the best handcuff RB’s and has RB 1 potential. So def pick him up.

  23. Nick, definitely roll with Peyton. The NO defense is incapable of stopping anyone. You could almost stream quarterbacks against them. Bcalum, Murray should still hold enough value that you don’t have to package Britt or Maclin with him for Willis (in my opinion). 24. Hi Munt and gang,

Do you think there’s any value in any of the Panthers RBs? I was avoiding them during the draft…but now that Williams, Stewart and Tolbert are all available I must say i’m tempted.

    Thoughts?

  25. Hi Munt and gang,

Do you think there’s any value in any of the Panthers RBs? I was avoiding them during the draft…but now that Williams, Stewart and Tolbert are all available I must say i’m tempted.

    Thoughts?

  26. u get doug martin and blount? welker in a PPR is a beast. so unless u really need an RB i wouldnt do it. martin has a good schedule coming up if u need an RB but blount is worthless.

  27. well, not sure if you noticed last week..stewart was the lead back..there was no split between him and wiliams. I had dropped 1 week ago, but scooped him up again. I want to see what they are going to do this week, i am sure it will come up before they play who will carry the load. with all the craziness and cam bitching in carolina..alot changes are being made

  28. drop hartline if you good a wr..pick up starks. Alex green doesnt have the job full yet, he struggles in pass protection.. which is must in the nfl..coaches were frustrated at him last week. So starks can steal that job. Smith can also steal the job back..leshoure and bell are fumbling to much.thats another big no no as a running back..scoop smith an see how it plays out

  29. hey munt or dome nation..what 6 rbs would you rather have on your roster : bolden, goodson (i have dmc), hillis, hunter, hardesty, dwyer, starks, kevin smith. I am in need of a rb this week, but also looking towards who will be able to help me if i need another rb down the road

  30. i say if you have room on your roster..see what the outcome will be. fumbles dont go over to well once you hit that nfl level. ex: slaton when he was with houston..he kept fumbling and got in the dog house, then other backs started producing without fumbles..lost that job

  31. Just read the latest article which mentioned Daryl Richardson as a great sleeper this week, he is currently on waivers in my league. But after reading this article I picked up Kevin Smith on waivers and have him on my roster. Should I drop him for Daryl?

    current team
    Tom Brady, Tony Romo
Roddy, Jordy, Miles, Bowe, Andre J., Stevie J.
Reggie Bush, MJD, Ahmad, Ridley, Kevin Smith
    Gronk – Vikes D – Gostkowski
