BEAST DOME NATION.

We are gearing towards Draft Week for a lot of you.  There are many advantages to having your draft this week, the #1 Advantage is Montee Ball has not done enough for people to spend a 2nd Round Pick on him.  Probably not even a 3rd.  So hopefully come draft day, you are able to snag him in the 4th.  Once he is the starting RB, or scores a TD this preseason.  Montee will be drafted as a Top 10 RB.

FANTASY FOOTBALL PRESEASON (WEEK 1 REPORT)

VALUE UP

DARYL RICHARDSON – RB – STL

Richardson is an explosive RB who should have the opportunity to be Mr. Everything for the Rams in 2013.  Against a tough Cleveland Browns run defense, he was able to put up solid run after solid run.  The backups in Pead (Fumbled) and Stacy (Nothing Special) have given Richardson more breathing space.

CHRIS JOHNSON – RB – TEN

Did not take long for CJ2K to show that he is a man on a mission this season.  It is worrisome that CJ will be losing goal line carries to Shonn Greene, but we all know he has the potential to take any ball to the house.  In his second carry he had a 58 Yard TD, he is dangerous.

COLIN KAEPERNICK – QB – SF

He may have only had one drive, but he showed he is going to be a nightmare to any defense that goes up against him.  Colin looked poised on all of his throws, as well as dodging an easy Von Miller snap.  I would not be afraid of taking Kaepernick despite not being a proven passer, he looks like a big season is heading his way.

ANTONIO GATES – TE – SD

Never have I ever seen Antonio Gates so nimble.  Especially against one of the best secondaries in the NFL with the Seahawks.  With the injury to Danario Alexander, we can expect to see Antonio Gates be right up there with the top Chargers in targets.  The Chargers were lining him up at WR in the slot more than on the line as a TE.  Once the best TE in the game, is now a legitimate sleeper.

MICHAEL VICK – QB – PHI

You can still draft Michael Vick as a backup, but if there is one player who has the most to prove this season.  Michael Vick is that player.  The Eagles QB made the Chip Kelly offense look like he was born to do it.  Desean Jackson is going to benfit the most from this as he is the only WR Vick really trusts.  Desean also has a lot to prove this season.

CECIL SHORTS/MARUICE JONES -DREW – WR/RB – JAX

Neither player played, but Blaine Gabbert looked horrible.  Which is perfect because if Chad Henne is the QB of this team, then the Jags have a legitimate chance of being an offense that can move the ball consistently.  Chad Henne was much better than Blaine with a QB Rating of 95.6 compared to Gabbert’s 16.7.  Give the Jags offense a boost.

JONATHAN STEWART – RB – CAR

I know it was against the Bears, but DeAnglo Williams looks like he is over the hill.  Jonathan Stewart is the future RB of this team, DeAnglo is on the way down and took a small contract to come back.  If DeAnglo continues disappoint, then we may finally see Jonathan Stewart with the 100% lead back role, something we have always dreamed about.  The ankle injury is a problem for J-Stew, but this is a long season and he is just getting healthy.

LARRY FITZGERALD – WR – ARI

Carson Palmer is proving that he is going to be a QB for Fitzgerald to depend on.  Every season Fitzgerald owners have had to go through the worst of the worst, only to see their star WR end up with mediocre numbers more weeks than not.  Carson looked posied and was not afraid to throw in Fitzgeralds direction, his TD pass to Andre Roberts was a perfect throw.

JAMAAL CHARLES – RB – KC

The Chiefs ran 14 Plays in their first possession.  Jamaal touched the ball on 8 of those plays, including the 1 Yard goal line TD.  Something his owners had to watch Peyton Hillis do in 2012.  Keep in mind it was against the Saints, but it is still obvious that Jamaal will be touching the ball more than 99% of all players this season.  If the Chiefs are serious about this season, they will keep feeding Jamaal.

C.J. SPILLER – RB – BUF

I was down on C.J. Spiller because I assumed that the Bills were contempt with Kevin Kolb at QB.  There is no way that can be the case anymore as E.J. Manuel looked a superstar in his first preseason game moving the chains at will.  If the Bills can move the chains, than C.J. can be involved more.  The problem with this team is it’s defense, which will allow a lot of points.

As long as E.J. Manuel is the QB moving the ball and creating a dual threat so defenses cannot get comfortable.  Then C.J. can be explosive.  He will move up in the Rankings.

VALUE DOWN

GIOVANI BERNARD – RB – CIN

I know it is early and Giovani has the potential to be a great player, but he was very unimpressive against a 2nd String defense that has allowed running backs to have solid games.  He was even running on turf which should of helped his explosivness, instead he was tackled by the first defender that made contact with the rookie.  Benjarvus Green-Ellis looked like Benjarvus.

Right now the situation is in Green-Ellis’s favor.

TAVON AUSTIN – WR – STL

It does not look like Tavon is going to be a go-to-guy for Bradford this season.  Givens had a nice debut, and Jared Cook looks to be the go-to-man in practice.  All of this is shaping up for Austin to be more of a role player this season, rather than the next coming of Percy Harvin.

ALFRED MORRIS – RB – WAS

Last season at this time, it was anyone’s guess who the starting RB for the Redskins was going to be.  When Roy Helu tore his ACL, it gave Alfred Morris all the room in the world to dominate in the Mike Shanahan blocking scheme.  Now Helu is healthy, and he is running like a man possessed wanting his old RB job back.  Coach Shanahan already admitted that Helu is looking quicker than Morris in camp.

Roy Helu is a threat for PT, Alfred Morris needs a strong showing when the Redskins roll out the red carpet for him.

LAMAR MILLER – RB – MIA

For the second straight week, Lamar Miller has failed to impress me.  Daniel Thomas is not the starting RB, but Fantasy owners know how dangerous the Ex- Kansas State product can be.  Lamar has to do better than his 3-5 Yard carries if he wants to keep the much bigger/stronger Daniel Thomas off the field.

ANDRE JOHNSON – WR – HOU

I was already down on Andre Johnson in my Rankings as no expert ranked him lower than my #22.  The reason why, is because of a young rookie in the name of DeAndre Hopkins who was selected in the 1st Round.  DeAndre was a star in his first game catching all 4 of his targets for 52 Yards and a TD.

The Texans do not throw the ball often, and if Andre does not see 12 Targets a game, he could be pretty close to middle of the line WR #2 talent.

DAVID WILSON – RB – NYG

I was already down on David Wilson as I was quoted on FantasyPros of saying that he was the most overrated RB heading into drafts this season with his 3rd Round ADP.  The reason was obvious on Saturday Night with Andre Brown being used in 3rd down and goal line situations.  This trend will continue all season as David Wilson is an all-or-nothing RB.  When the Giants have a tough matchup against a physical defense like the Steelers, he is a RB#3 at best.

  1. Woo!
Nice to see the ball moving towards the season opener. Hopefully all the haters out there realize that there is something to like about and can agree on.

  2. How far will you move SPILLER up? Almost no one has him ranked as low as you do, 95% of people have him in the top 5 . Given the comments from his OC, how high will you move him up?

It seems like all the pieces are there, really talented and explosive player, amazing YPA, will get the caries.

  3. It seems as though Spiller can potentially fit right in with between 5 and 7. Either after Doug Martin or Charles. But before Trent Richardson.

  4. Never had a bad opinion about Manuel, I just thought the Bills were over-committing to giving Kevin Kolb the reigns this season.

That opinion obviously has to change in the Bills front office after that debut from E.J.

  5. I think if Spiller is the every down back 20 to 25 carries every game he will end up getting hurt. The more the bills give him the ball you can expect to see his ypa fall. I feel that the bills need a two running back system for spiller to thrive

  6. Hey everybody

been a minute since I wrote, busy trying to win every league I’m in, lol. Anyway, have a little dilemma, I need to drop one of these players in my keeper league: Calvin Johnson, Adrian Peterson or Arian Foster? Which ONE TO KEEP? Been a big struggle for me as Calvin and Foster have been the mainstay of my team for years, don’t want to change that. But AP is going to be a terror again this year, and Calvin, well, nothing to say there. AWESOME! So who to keep? I might get him back, depending on where I draft. But it’s a keeper league and my family, who are the other players will be out to get him. or Foster. Or, will u got it. So a choice here is hard to make. So, who would you pick?

  7. Have to go Bradshaw. He will get so many more touches than those guys on a consistent basis. He also is a rock solid RB who will not lose his PT as well.
