FANTASY BASKETBALL MID-SEASON REPORT: Part 3.

FANTASY BASKETBALL MID-SEASON REPORT: Part 3.

By Muntradamus

Beast Dome community,

The mid-way point for fantasy basketball is coming up.  Instead of doing the traditional player update with a brief paragraph to recap the player. I will be projecting out the 2nd half of the season by giving their outlook, along with if I think there stats will increase in the different categories.

Green = Stat will go up in the 2nd half.

Red= Stat will down in the 2nd half.

Black= Stat will stay the same.

Let’s get to it..

TUESDAY’S (2/21/12) FANTASY NBA HEADLINES

  • Jrue Holiday back-to-back 20+ Point games.  Fantasy owners can relax.
  • Marc Gasol puts on a show with (15 Points, 14 Rebounds, 7 Assists, 5 Blocks)
  • Jarrett Jack comes off the bench and dominates Vasquez.  33 Min vs. 21 Min.
  • Roy Hibbert puts up 30 Points, 13 Rebounds.  Ready for the next level?
  • Tayshaun Prince 2-15 FG.  Austin Daye alert.
  • Antwan Jamison shows off his talent with an elite 32 Points, 10 Rebounds.
  • Duncan/Parker/Ginobili/Splitter DNP.  Kawhi Leonard (24 Points, 10 Rebounds)
  • Jamal Crawford started, 20 Points, 8 Assists.  Must-Start fantasy option.

—————————————————————————————————–

KINGS

Tyreke Evans (8.6/10)

Stats: (37 Minutes, 17.2 Points, 5.2 Rebounds, 5.3 Assists, 1.4 Steals, 0.5 3PTM)

Second Half Outlook: Tyreke is starting to find some form of consistency with Marcus Thornton in the lineup.  That will give his owners a big sigh of relief who do not want to re-live the terrible inconsistent player he was showing us.  Isaiah Thomas at the PG spot should provide some relief for Tyreke who can now catch the ball and go, as oppose to him ball hogging it.

Marcus Thornton (7.9/10)

Stats: (36 Minutes, 18.1 Points, 1.5 Steals, 2.2 3PTM)

Second Half Outlook: Thornton is starting to get some starts at the Forward position which would make him a very dynamic player.  Thornton can score 20+ any game, and his 3PT shot makes him elite.  He is a great guy to target, if he qualifies at forward he could be top 15 at the position.

DeMarcus Cousins (8.8/10)

Stats: (30 Minutes, 16.4 Points, 11.2 Rebounds, 1.2 Steals, 1.2 Blocks, 4.2 Fouls)

Second Half Outlook: Cousins is a beast who has 20-20 potential every night.  Foul trouble is his only concern, but expect Cousins to have way more big games than soft nights.  Cousins is an elite center in fantasy basketball.

John Salmons (5.9/10)

Stats: (28 Minutes, 7 Points, 3.1 Rebounds, 0.7 3PTM)

Second Half Outlook: Salmons has lost his starting gig full time to Isaiah Thomas.  Salmons has been a disappointment all season long, and the Kings appear to be done giving him his chances.

Isaiah Thomas (6.2/10)

Stats: (19 Minutes, 8.5 Points, 2.8 Assists, 1.1 3PTM, 0.6 Steals)

Second Half Outlook: The hottest thing since sliced bread, Isaiah should be owned in all leagues once we hit the All-Star Break.  He is looking elite as the starting guard for the Kings with great scoring and assist numbers.  On top of that he is rebounding very well, and could be a secret player on a lot of championship teams.

Jason Thompson (7/10)

Stats: (23 Minutes, 8 Points, 6.1 Rebounds, 0.4 Steals, 0.5 Blocks)

Second Half Outlook: Thompson is a solid PF who has double-double potential every night.  The Kings are starting to put out a better team that can really score some points.   I expect Thompson to be a solid Forward going forward who can really help you in rebounds.

——————————————————————————————-

KNICKS

Jeremy Lin (8.3/10)

Stats: (23 Minutes, 14.6 Points, 5.7 Assists, 1.4 Steals, 0.6 3PTM)

Second Half Outlook: Linsanity may hit a brick wall in these upcoming games with the Knicks reconsidering letting Melo shoot the ball 20+ times.  PGs usually thrive in the D’Antoni offense, but this team needs to find their style now that everyone is healthy.

Carmelo Anthony (8.6/10)

Stats: (34 Minutes, 21.8 Points, 5.8 Rebounds, 4.3 Assists, 1.2 3PTM, 1.1 Steals)

Second Half Outlook:  When Melo is playing, he is a top 5 option at the forward position.  Injuries slowed down his first half of the season which was a bit of a disappointment.  I expect Melo to bounce back for a huge 2nd half.

Amare Stoudemire (8.5/10)

Stats: (34 Minutes, 18 Points, 8 Rebounds, 1 Steal, 0.7 Blocks)

Second Half Outlook: Amare had a disappointing 1st half of the season as well.  Amare has really hit a fantasy wall ever since Melo joined the team a season ago.  I expect the Knicks to figure it out eventually so everyone can remain productive.  Including Amare.

Tyson Chandler (7.7/10)

Stats: (33 Minutes, 11.9 Points, 9.6 Rebounds, 1 Steal, 1.4 Blocks)

Second Half Outlook: Chandler had an amazing 1st half of the season offensively.  But with all the Knicks looking healthy, his shot attempts will not come to him at the same volume they were.  He should still be a great starting fantasy center, just don’t expect as many 12+ Point games.

Iman Shumpert (6.6/10)

Stats: (30 Minutes, 10.3 Points, 3.4 Rebounds, 3.2 Assists, 2 Steals)

Second Half Outlook: Iman could be the Knick that gets hurt the most with the signing of J.R. Smith and the emergence of Jeremy Lin.  Shumpert was getting his minutes before, but now add Baron Davis back to the picture and it is hard to imagine Shumpert being anything more than a fantasy reserve.

Landry Fields (7/10)

Stats: (32 Minutes, 10.1 Points, 4.4 Rebounds, 3.1 Assists, 1.4 Steals, 0.7 3PTM)

Second Half Outlook: Fields is a vital part of the Knicks chemistry and will continue to get a bunch of minutes at either guard or forward position.  Fields may not contribute on a fantasy level to what his owners want, but you can expect solid production throughout the stat sheet.  Fields is what Jodie Meeks is to the 76ers.  Maybe not the best player, but someone who is solid and will run with the 1st team.

J.R. Smith (6.5/10)

Stats: (27 Minutes, 9.5 Points, 3.5 Rebounds, 2.5 Assists, 1 Steal, 1.5 3PTM)

Second Half Outlook: J.R. is one of the few fantasy players who is not an elite option, but can easily play like one on any given night.  In reality J.R. is more of a bench player, especially playing for this deep Knicks squad, but since he is so explosive you got to give him starts when you can.  He averaged 33 a game in China, and he is not afraid to shoot 7 3PT shots a game with his eyes closed.  J.R. will be a very high and low type of player.

——————————————————————————————

LAKERS

Kobe Bryant (10/10)

Stats: (38 Minutes, 29 Points, 5.8 Rebounds, 5 Assists, 1.3 Steals, 1.4 3PTM)

Second Half Outlook: Kobe will continue to be a catalyst for the Lakers all season.  The ball is always in his hands, so with the 20+ shot attempts he is due to find big men down low for assists.  Kobe is an elite option.

Andrew Bynum (9.2/10)

Stats: (35 Minutes, 16.3 Points, 12.8 Rebounds, 2.1 Blocks, 0.5 Steals)

Second Half Outlook: Bynum is underperforming to what his potential could be.  The rebounding is great, but he is only averaging 12 shot attempts per game.  This is one of the premier centers in the NBA and he is only shooting the ball 12 times.  Something has to change.

Pau Gasol (9.2/10)

Stats: (37 Minutes, 16.6 Points, 10.7 Rebounds, 1.3 Blocks, 0.5 Steals)

Second Half Outlook: Pau has had an interesting season where he looked soft and like a worthless fantasy option.  To a big man who knows exactly what he is doing and filling up the stat sheet consistently every night.  As long as the Lakers remain a three man fantasy team, Pau is an excellent/elite option in all leagues.

MAGIC

Dwight Howard (10/10)

Stats: (38 Minutes, 20.3 Points, 15.3 Rebounds, 1.4 Steals, 2.1 Blocks)

Second Half Outlook: D12 is by far the best center in fantasy basketball, and the NBA.  The Magic may decide not to trade him this season and see how far their team can get with the big man.  They may never have a caliber player like this for a long time, someone who can get 20-20 games consistently.

Jason Richardson (6.8/10)

Stats: (29 Minutes, 12.2 Points, 3.2 Rebounds, 1 Steal, 2 3PTM)

Second Half Outlook: J-Rich had a terrible start to the season, got injured, and then outplayed by J.J.  But lately over the past couple of weeks we are starting to see vintage Richardson.  As soon as he got hot, he went down, and now J.J. gets the chance to prove that he deserves more playing time.  I expect the Magic to stick with Richardson as long as they are fighting for playoff positioning.

Jameer Nelson (7.3/10)

Stats: (30 Minutes, 9.3 Points, 5.2 Assists, 0.6 Steals, 0.9 3PTM)

Second Half Outlook: Jameer had a very bad 1st half of the season, but has had his moments lately.  Dwight Howard and his trade rumors have really hurt Nelson and his confidence this season, and it’s not looking like improvement is coming.  The good news for Nelson is he has no competition for PT so he will get every chance in the world to bounce back.

Ryan Anderson (8.6/10)

Stats: (31 Minutes, 16.3 Points, 7.3 Rebounds, 0.8 Steals, 3.0 3PTM)

Second Half Outlook: Rhino is a 3PTM machine.  He single handily can win you the category.  Lately he has been a bit inconsistent but I expect him to keep playing strong the whole season and be a potential 20 Point, 8 Rebound threat all season long.

Hedo Turkoglu (7.2/10)

Stats: (31 Minutes, 11.5 Points, 4.6 Assists, 3.8 Rebounds, 0.8 Steals, 1.9 3PTM)

Second Half Outlook:  If you need someone who will put up close to Andre Iguodala stats, Hedo is your man.  Turk has great assist potential at the forward position, and can do a bit of everything on top of that.  I like Turk long term this season as the team really counts on him as their point forward.

J.J. Reddick (6.6/10)

Stats: (26 Minutes, 11.2 Points, 1.6 3PTM)

Second Half Outlook: J.J. is all 3PTM but he also comes off the bench and cannot be trusted every night.  When Richardson is out, Reddick is an excellent short term option.  In deeper leagues I would keep Reddick on my bench.

———————————————————————————————

MAVERICKS

Dirk Nowitzki (8.7/10)

Stats: (33 Minutes, 19.4 Points, 6.6 Rebounds, 0.8 Steals, 0.6 Blocks, 0.8 3PTM)

Second Half Outlook: Dirk had all of his fantasy owners worried all season.  As of late he is back to his vintage self, scoring 20+ almost every game sometimes 30.  Dirk is playing like a 1st round talent, and whoever bought him low is really happy with this outcome.  It should continue all season as his confidence is back.

Jason Kidd (7.3/10)

Stats: (28 Minutes, 5.1 Points, 5.5 Assists, 4.7 Rebounds, 1.4 3PTM, 1.7 Steals)

Second Half Outlook: Kidd has shown glimpses of what we expected from him.  But the truth is Kidd is over the hill.  I do not expect Jason to be a solid fantasy option the rest of the season, but he will get his random 10 assist games.  The rebounds and points are not nearly what they use to be.  You can do a lot worse than him.

Shawn Marion (7.6/10)

Stats: (30 Minutes, 12 Points, 6.4 Rebounds, 0.9 Steals, 0.5 Blocks, 0.4 3PTM)

Second Half Outlook: Marion really stepped it up when Dirk was down.  He still consistently see’s 30+ Minutes a night which is plenty of time for him to put up his great fantasy value.  The worry with Marion comes with the potential of losing playing time to Lamar Odom.

Jason Terry (6.6/10)

Stats: (31 Minutes, 14.7 Points, 2.1 3PTM, 3.7 Assists, 1.2 Steals)

Second Half Outlook: The Jet is not the fantasy option he has been in the past.  The Mavericks are a very deep team and expecting consistent production is not reality.  The good news is he can knock down the 3PTM a couple times a game at least which makes him solid.  He should continue to be a great fantasy role player.

Vince Carter (6.1/10)

Stats: (24 Minutes, 10.6 Points, 1.1 Steals, 3.1 Rebounds, 1.3 3PTM)

Second Half Outlook: VincSanity may have lost his nickname to Jeremy Lin, but he has bounced back for a huge resurgence out of nowhere.  I expect Vince to be a solid NBA player this season, but someone you definitely cannot trust in even the deepest of fantasy leagues.

Delonte West (5.3/10)

Stats: (23 Minutes, 8.3 Points, 3.5 Assists, 1.6 Steals, 0.6 3PTM, 90.9 FT %)

Second Half Outlook: Delonte was a starter to start the season, but now the Mavs are comfortable with Vince Carter.  Instead of going to 6th man or back up SG, Delonte has really gone to back up PG where he should be splitting time with Roddy B.  All in all Delonte is waiver wire material at this point.

—————————————————————————————————

NETS

Deron Williams (9.9/10)

Stats: (38 Minutes, 22.2 Points, 8.2 Assists, 1.1 Steals, 2.4 3PTM)

Second Half Outlook: Deron is an elite fantasy PG.  If you need assists or just an all-around great PG this is your guy.  If all drafts started today he would go #1 at his position just because there are not many guys who can score like he does and rack up the assists like this monster.

Brook Lopez (7.8/10)

Stats: 1st Game Tonight. (31 Minutes, 15 Points, 7 Rebounds, 1.5 Blocks)

Second Half Outlook: Brook would have been a 3rd round pick in a majority of fantasy leagues if it wasn’t for the foot injury that sidelined him this far into the season.  Tonight he makes his debut, and just for the record he will be a startable option in all leagues by the time we finish the first week of March.

Kris Humphries (8/10)

Stats: (35 Minutes, 13.6 Points, 10.5 Rebounds, 0.7 Steals, 1.2 Blocks)

Second Half Outlook: If anyone is going to take a hit when Brook comes back it is Hump.  You can expect the shot attempts to take a bit of a hit, and add another big body that will take some rebounds.  However I still expect Hump to be a consistent double-double threat every night.

Anthony Morrow (6.9/10)

Stats: (29 Minutes, 13.3 Points, 0.8 Steals, 2.1 3PTM)

Second Half Outlook: Anthony Morrow is another one of those 3PTM machines.  He won’t do much besides that, and now with the Nets getting healthier you can expect those shot attempts to take a minor hit.  I expect Morrow to be a safer version of J.R. Smith on most nights.  For the time being.

MarShon Brooks (7.3/10)

Stats: (30 Minutes, 14.2 Points, 4.3 Rebounds, 1 Steal, 1.2 3PTM)

Second Half Outlook: MarShon was the first big Free Agent phenom this season.  Then the foot injury happened which set his value way back.  Then coach Johnson said he was only going to play 29 Minutes max the rest of the season per game.  Now he is back to 40+.  I expect MarShon to be a really solid fantasy option especially in leagues where he qualifies at forward.  Brooks can score 15+ every night with the intangibles.

ASK ANY FANTASY BASKETBALL QUESTIONS BELOW AND AN EXPERT WILL ANSWER THEM.

(FANTASY BASKETBALL MID-SEASON REPORT PART 4) Coming Soon..

  1. Hey Munt just wanted to ask your advice real quick. I have Ben Gordon and Jordan Crawford right now. However, Marshon Brooks is on my waiver and I’m considering dropping one of these two for him. Right now I’m leaning towards Ben Gordon because he doesn’t seem to get as many minutes as these guys. What do you think?

  2. Sorry one more quick question. It looks to me like Vasquez is going to lose minutes to Jack. Maybe I’m putting to much stock in one game, but I’m considering dropping Vasquez for Isaiah Thomas who is dominating right now

  3. MarShon Brooks should not be a Free Agent in any league.

However all three of these guys have potential for huge nights, any game.

I would rank them in this order.

    1. Brooks (Safest option)
    2. Crawford (Fantasy MVP of the Playoffs a season ago and could head that way again when Washington gets eliminated)
    3. Gordon (A guy who can put up 20+ any night, and shoots the ball more than an attempt per 2 minutes played)

  4. Make the move.

Thomas will be owned in every league by the end of tonight with another solid game.

  5. I’m an #1 in a deep league of 16 teams. I am thinking of trading Jose Calderon. Who should I trade him for?

  6. Austin Daye could be an elite option at the forward position. If he got the chance to consistently play starters minutes.

Soon the Pistons will be eliminated from the playoffs, and Tayshaun Prince shooting 2-15 has him heading in the wrong direction. So there is hope for sooner than later that he becomes a more valuable fantasy tool.

  7. Howdy, here’s my team – 8 category head to head – needing points, dimes and boards

    PG – Jrue Holiday
    SG – Brandon Knight
    SF LeBron James\
    PF Kevin Garnett
C Al Jefferson, Uta C, PF
    G Brandon Jennings, Mil PG
F MarShon Brooks, NJ SG, SF
UTIL Chris Bosh, Mia PF, C
UTIL Kemba Walker, Cha PG, SG
UTIL Ersan Ilyasova, Mil SF, PF
Bench Jarrett Jack, Nor PG, SG
    Bench DeAndre Jordan, LAC C
Bench Anderson Varejao*, Cle PF, C O

I’m pretty happy with my team but some hot players are available. Also I don;t know if I want to wait 4 more weeks for Varejao since I have Big Al.

Available – augustin, ariza, miller, turkoglu, chalmers, isiah thomas, spreights, delfino

Sounds like I should grab thomas but won’t he be sharing minutes with Tyreke? Looking forward to hearing who you would drop from my team and who to grab, thanks

  8. Welcome to Beast Dome Matt. My goal is to help every fantasy owner win their championship who comes to me for advice.

Augustin and Isaiah Thomas need to be added in all leagues.

However the only people on your team that are droppable are Varejao and DeAndre Jordan. Both are tough players to lose, especially if you face them in the playoffs.

I would add Isaiah Thomas over Augustin, as I expect Thomas to put up Lin type production. He is not sharing minutes as he is the staring PG, and Thornton moved to the SF spot. John Salmons is the one who lost and will lose all the minutes with the emergence of Thomas.

So if you really need the assists, go ahead and add Thomas and drop Varejao. He does not seem like a vital part of your team anyways with all your other big men.

  9. Hey,

I was offered this trade, can you tell me your opinion on it. Also, here is my current roster
    PG – Jeremy Lin
    SG – Caron Butler
    SF – Kevin Durant
    PF – David West
    C – Tyson Chandler
    PG – Ty Lawson
    PG – Ricky Rubio
    C – Greg Monroe
    SF/PF – Rudy Gay
    PF/C – Zach Randolph
    C – Brook Lopez

The Trade was I get Chris Paul, Nic Batum, Jeff Teague, and Joakim Noah and I give Ricky Rubio, Jeremy Lin, Rudy Gay, and Greg Monroe. Good or Bad?

I am in desperate need for an SG and currently I have three straight PG’s and 3 straight C’s. our daily lineups consist of PG, SG, SF, PF, C, and Util…

  10. Welcome to Beast Dome Matt

You have a nice solid team, let’s analyze the trade.

    You Get

    Chris Paul= Top 5 Pick
Nic Batum= Red Hot player. Excellent fantasy guy.
Jeff Teague= Solid, but will be great if Joe was out for a while.
Joakim= Hot player, should have a solid 2nd half.

    You Give
    Rubio= Assists
    Lin=Value on his way down
    Gay= Top 10 Forward
    Monroe= Top 5 Center

    CP3>>>Rubio
    Teague<http://www.beastdome.com/fantasy-basketball-trade-analyzer-week-8-week-9

  11. Thanks for the analysis. With this trade I wasn’t looking for an upgrade at SG, just looking for another SG. Currently, I sit first in my league but the guy in second is very close. My problem has been that because I have 3 centers that are only eligible for center and the 3 point guards that are only PG eligible I am consistently not able to fill SG or some other positions on nights where Caron is not playing. The other problem is having to decide between the three center and three point guards when they are all playing. I agree with Teague, I wasn’t a fan of obtaining him but at least he plays two positions and I can throw him in if need be. I tried for Jamal Crawford instead but that didn’t work out. Thank for your help.

  12. Instead of trading 4 players for 4 players. Why not just try to trade Jeremy Lin for Nicolas Batum straight up? Or even go after Paul George for a one-for-one trade. Your team looks great and you don’t need to break it up.

Either way feel free to ask any questions as they come.

  13. 1) Should I drop Gooden for Varejao? HTH league, looking like I will make the playoffs.

    2) Would you trade ‘Melo & M Brooks for Kobe?

    Thanks!

  14. 1) If you are a lock for the playoffs go ahead and make that move. That is if Gooden has no/little role at all on your team when healthy.

    2) That is a good trade. I think in the long run you will be happy with Kobe over Melo. If you have a good substitute for Brooks spot or he was on your bench and he will not be missed, then you can pull the trigger. Also depends who you have filling Melo’s SF spot, as forwards are far more rare than Guards.
