Lets see if we can round out some more players who have lost their “swag” in the latest WHERE MY SWAG AT!

We take a look at players who have been under performing, and I try to work some magic ant turn their season around. This weekend I planed to attend the Yankee-Toronto game on Sunday.  I wanted to see RA Dickey live and see if after writing about him, he can get his swag back while I was there. The game was rained out. Fail.

This week we are going to look at two young players who have made their mark on the game but are really struggling.  First lets re-visit how the players are doing since I’ve called them out.

Trevor Plouffe and Matt Cain have been my two MVPs so far this season, which is still very young. Lets take a look at the players I have chosen for this week and see if they can begin to turn it around.

WHERE YOUR SWAG AT! (Vol. VI)

HITTER

The Mets are known to be a struggling team, but they have a few bright spots in their lineup. One of those players is 1B ike Davis. Ike broke into the league with a bang and hit 19 HR and 71 RBI as a rookie. In 2013 Davis broke out after struggling early on in 2012.  He hit 32 HR and drove in 90 RBI. He was one of the hottest players coming into this season and was projected to hit around 30 HR and drive in over 100 RBI’s. at this point in the season that looks like a faint dream.

IKE DAVIS – 1B – NYM

(STATS AS OF 5/21): .152 Average. 4 HR. 9 RBI. 0 SB

Davis has started off the season like the song from Foreigner “You’re as cold as ice”. In 135 at bats, he has 4 HR and 9 RBI and batting .152. This is not the Ike Davis that no one saw coming. I do not think he is in trouble of losing his job or being sent down, but maybe a DL trip for him to get his head together might the best thing for him.

PITCHER

Pitching is a very tricky thing, like I always say.. one season you can be the top pitcher and the next you can be in the gutter. I am not going to go as far as to say this next pitcher is in the gutter as the season is early. But his numbers are the beginning of a downhill season.  If you guessed the pitcher was David Price then you would be correct and you are the next contest in…

The Price is wrong.

DAVID PRICE – SP – TB

STATS AS OF 5/21:  5.24 ERA/1.44 WHIP/(1-4)/49 K (55 INN)

Last season Price finished with 20 wins and an ERA of 2.55. He also had 205 K’s. All that season led to was the 2012 Cy Young award.  This season could not have started any worse for Price. Not only is his record 1-4 but his ERA is  a ballooning 5.24.  As I have stated before, a DL trip might be the best thing for struggling players.  With Price on the DL, I am hoping he comes back as the dominant pitcher we all know he is. Time heals all and with this time off he should be good to go.
