Fantasy Baseball: Salvador Perez

Fantasy Baseball: Salvador Perez

You read the headline, you look at the picture.  Nearly 90% of you still do not know who this guy is.

Let me re-fresh your memory.  Here is the exert I wrote for him when ranking my catchers this pre-season.

#16. Salvador Perez – ROYALS

Prediction (.285 AV. 15 HR. 60 RBI. 58 Runs. 2 SB)

Perez was a late call-up last season, and showed enough dominance through that stretch to be a heavily watched catcher this pre-season.  In 39 games, which he started all of them once he was called up.  He hit 3 HRs, and 21 RBIs.  Most importantly he hit .331 which makes you believe that this guy has real-deal potential.  At 6’3, 244, and 21 years old, I am excited to see what this kid has to offer.

..Someone to watch this pre-season turned into a knee injury that forced him to the 60-day DL.  This is a big guy, and he is healing very quickly.  He already went 4-4 with a HR in an extended spring training game.  He is expected back in sometime before June, could be mid, I expect late.

The Royals are a team that will always play young talent to the ground.  Salvador Perez is their future catcher no doubt.  He will not be benched for playing poorly, and the Royals want to see him become a force.  With the bat and calling the game behind the plate.

So if you are a team that is really struggling with your catcher, SALVADOR PEREZ is your free-agent Waiver Wire add to save your season.  He is going to be a great guy to own in the 2nd half of this season regardless.  His potential is of Wilson Ramos stature, when Ramos is hitting the ball very well.
