DO I DRAFT?

XANDER BOGAERETS

By Muntradamus

BEAST DOME NATION.

Here is a player that combined for 19 HRs in his first two full seasons in the Majors.

The batting average potential has been there since he was a rookie, but he only managed to hit .240 with 12 HRs as a rookie. 7 HRs and a .320 average as a 2nd year pro.

Heading into his 4th season at 24 years old, Xander is coming off of a 21 HR season with a .289 Batting Average. While there is many reason to believe that Bogaerets has yet to reach his MAX potential, the real question is.

Would you draft Xander in the 3rd round where his current ADP of #28 looks at you straight in the face?

Short answer yes, long answer no.

Xander is going to be asked to not only run more with David Ortiz no longer on the squad. The Red Sox will be more aggressive as a team as far as stealing bases.

Hanley Ramirez really has to be the cleanup hitter and knock in all the RBIs he can as the Red Sox lineup is not that potent after their Top 4 Hitters.

So while Xander will get his RBI opportunities with knocking in guys like Betts/Pedroia.

His Run opportunities will take a slight dip with no Ortiz or Travis Shaw on the squad.

However there is reason to believe those 12 SB can turn into 20.

So now we go back to the question.

Would you draft Xander in the 3rd round where his current ADP of #28 looks at you straight in the face?

You are getting a quality SS who is ready to put up guaranteed Top 10 numbers at the position.

Potentially Top 5.

However I will stick with my long answer no,

The Strategy I have mapped out for you to BEAST your League says look the other way in the 3rd Round.

There is a lot of talent at the SS position, there are players who are being drafted later at the SS position who could have a better season. Xander is a BEAST, but a SS in Round 3 is not the pick I am going with for my roster.
