FANTASY BASEBALL

13 DAYS TILL OPENING DAY (JOEY GALLO)

By Muntradamus

BEAST DOME NATION.

I am the 5x HR Champion on FantasyPros. Chris Davis 2013/Nelson Cruz 2014/Chris Davis 2015/Mark Trumbo 2016/Aaron Judge 2017.

All of those years, no Expert came even close to my Rank at the position, and this year again no Expert will come close to my 2018 HR Champion, Joey Gallo. While my Heart will be rooting for Chris Davis, a Player you should all Draft as Experts on FantasyPros have him as the #28 1B option. I will have him Top 10, giving me my #2 option. Joey Gallo in the High-Teens at 1B & 3B on FantasyPros is a joke.

Joey Gallo as a part-time player last year hit over 40 HRs. Mike Napoli is gone, and Joey Gallo will serve as the everyday 1B option for the Rangers. In nearly all leagues he qualifies at 1B/3B, some leagues you may get that OF Elgibility. The real position you will want to play him at is at 3B. If you miss Josh Donaldson in the 2nd Round of your Draft, Joey Gallo around Round 8-10 in 12 man leagues is the MUST-TARGET. In fact in 12 man leagues, push him to Round 7.

Lets first talk about Texas. That ball park is low-key or high-key, depending on how much baseball you watch. The Coors Field (Colorado) of the American League, of course after Yankee Stadium which hardly qualifies as a Ball park and is more of a softball field. Joey Gallo playing everyday will allow him to find his groove and not worry about being on the bench the day after he hits a HR. Gallo is also young, he is 24 Years old. Gallo has also been one of the top prospects in Baseball hitting over 40 HRs in the minors in two different seasons!

The thing that turns off Experts to Joey Gallo and why he is slipping on Draft Day…is the fact the guy cannot hit for average. In the minors Gallo hit .254 in his career. In the majors, Gallo is barely above the mendoza line at .201. Last season Gallo hit .209, but at one point of the season, Gallo was hitting .286. But that was after day 2 of the MLB season, after that Gallo quickly fell to .200 and was hitting less than .200 all the way through July. Even Chris Davis is not that bad in that batting average department.

Despite the horrible batting average, and the likely trend to continue that problem. Joey Gallo gives you something that only Aaron Judge & Giancarlo Stanton give you, two 2nd Round Picks. Gallo gives you an easy 50+ HRs. At the 3B position where Donaldson hitting 40+ would be a great season, Gallo will give you that same power.

If you are going to tank in Roto Leagues in Batting Average. You might as well get the guys who will throw you in 1st Place in HRs and RBIs. Because at the end of the day, Fantasy Baseball is a long season. The guys who go 3-8 with 1 RBI over 2 days, is not as exciting as the guys who go 2-8 with 1 HR in the same amount of time. Draft Joey Gallo on Draft Day, Draft Chris Davis on Draft Day. Do not worry about batting average, 500 At-Bats in the grand scheme of things does not hurt your teams batting average nearly as much as you think. If Gallo hits anywhere near his .256 average like he did in the minors, you have yourself the bargain of the Draft. Next to Chris Davis of course.
