PLANNING MY PLAYOFF DEFENSES

BEAST DOME NATION.

The R.O.S Rankings has been fixed on the Trade Market Post from Thursday Night.

The Final Player Rankings notes will be updated before Saturday Evening.

Final Updated Rankings will be Posted Saturday Night.

We will try to do the Chat Live Sunday from 8:00am (pacific) – 9:45am (pacific) on the site.  If we are having lag the chat may go completely through Twitter.  We will wait and see.  This article is a strategy guide to help you navigate the Playoffs if you do not have a steady defense such as the 49ers, Bears, Broncos, or any defense that is not already owned in most leagues.

STRATEGY

This season I was one of those Fantasy Owners who got burned by the Eagles D/ST.  Luckily I will still make the playoffs with ease at a 7-2 Record, but here is what my strategy is going to be as far as my defense goes from now until the end of the season. I rank the best teams that are possibly/likely around on your waiver wire.

Top Defenses To Close Out The Season

*Week in Brackets defy good matchups. Ranked by best matchups.

1. BRONCOS D/ST (Week 10/11/12/14/16/17)

The Broncos are by far the best Playoff defense in Fantasy Football 2012.  They play easy games against the AFC opponents, including KC twice.  They even face Cleveland in Week 16 when they could be starting scrubs.

The Broncos have a great defense all-around, they have a great defensive coordinator, and the team is just ready to dominate.

2. BILLS  D/ST (Week 11/13/14/15/16/17)

Not a great defensive unit at all, but after this week against the Patriots, the Bills have Fantasy Gold heading in their direction.  Matchups against the Jaguars/Dolphins/Seahawks/Rams/Jets all in consecutive weeks can make this team a gold mine.  They are my first choice if you need a dark sleeper.

The Bills have been doing lousy all season, but now this team is starting to get a little stronger with Mario Williams getting healthy.

3. RAMS D/ST (Week 11/12/14/17)

The Rams have a good schedule leading up to the playoffs as they face the Jets, Cardinals in Week 11/12.  Those are two nice potential starts as both offenses are horrible.  The Rams are definitely improving, but they are at least one step away from being a contender in the NFC West.

4. JETS D/ST (Week 10/11/13/14/15)

This is now or never for the Jets as they have good matchups against the Seahawks and Rams in back-to-back weeks starting Sunday in Week 10.  The Jets D has not been the same dominant group as they were before when Revis was healthy, but they can still play and they should do well in the easy matchups.

5. ARIZONA D/ST (Week 11/12/13)

The Cardinals defense was amazing to start the season, but then quickly faded when Darnell Dockett got injured.  He is now healthy, and it is now time for this Cardinals defense to get some momentum heading to the Fantasy Playoffs.  If you need a quick fix, this is your unit.

6. TITANS (Week 10/12/15/17)

The Titans do not even have that great of a defense, but they are good enough against teams like the Jaguars and Jets to end up with decent performances.  Would I depend on the Titans in a do-or-die matchup?  Probably not, but I would take them over a medicore defense playing a tough team.

I.E.

TB D/ST @ NO
vs.
TEN D/ST VS. NYJ

I would go with the Titans Defense.

7. PANTHERS D/ST (Week 12/13/15/17)

Here’s a defense that is really starting to play well as of late.  The pass rushers are getting sacks, and everyone else is making the plays they are supposed to.  The reason the Panthers are not high in these rankings is due to the fact that the matchups are not the easiest, besides KC.  All-in-All, I would have no problem using the Panthers D/ST, but I would hope for a lot of luck to go my way.

  1. Locked and loaded with Denver for the Playoffs (if I make ’em). Thanks MuntraD

Which QB do you favor for the playoffs: Matt Ryan or Peyton Manning. Giving up Mike Wallace to nab one of them to replace Vick and Freeman.

  2. Please help me set up my line up: qb tom brady, rb1 marcel reece, rb2 steve ridley, wr1 brandon marshall, wr2 nate washington, te gresham, flex1 redman, and dressen, kicker gould, texan defense. Bench: mcfadden, jon stewart , starks, greg jennings, titus young, alsh

  3. Is any of these defenses worth picking up to replace SF in week 12? They will play against the Saints that week. Denver is taken but all the others are on the waivers.

  4. Yes. Titans defense is available. I was thinking St.Louis or Arizona for week 12. Or would the Titans be better option? Or should I just stay with SF against the Saints?

  5. I am feeling Miami will be a solid week 15 WW defense. I am going to drop SF and roll with the ‘fins against a toothless jaguar run and hope that henne throws multiple picks.
